Extremely interesting displays that brought alive many of Steinbeck's books movies and life events. I now need to reread most books and perhaps some others. This is a gem to find.

It had been a long time ago that I read John Steinbeck books. My travel companion and I had an hour and a half to kill in Salinas waiting for a train. We happened to see the Steinbeck Center within 5 minutes walk to the...More

We visited in the afternoon. It was not crowded and it was nice to be able to easily look and read all of the displays. This center also gave a good history and background of the area. It was interesting to see how his experiences...More

I'm not sure what I expected but it wasn't this. The exhibits were very imaginatively put together by book but with plenty of background information on Steinbeck's family and the time period so putting everything in context. Very much worthy of a visit.

We visited on a Sunday afternoon and the center wasn't crowded. Two short films introduce his life and Salinas agricultural history. There is a large exhibit that traces all of Steinbeck's works in chronological order. I was especially interested in the Grapes of Wrath and...More

In Salinas, CA it really is something to see for such a famous American author with the impact of Steinbeck. The center really tries to be visual and has props and things for younger audience. There is a lot to read as you go through,...More

My wife and I visited California from the UK and have read Cannery Row, East of Eden and Grapes of Wrath so felt that we would make a detour and visit Salinas for the Steinbeck Center. We were not disappointed as the museum gave us...More

I have to admit I have seen more movies based on Steinbeck books than I have actually read the books. But this museum really brought his books and life story to life. Great exhibits, videos and information. I immediately rented the movie "Cannery Row" to...More

I recently visited for the second time. It's a must for a Steinbeck fan, but I'd recommend it to as relevant to all. In addition to having interesting information and artifacts related to Steinbeck's life and novels, it's all placed in the relevant regional, national,...More

I've read some Steinbeck and really wanted to see this museum. My husband is neutral to Steinbeck but still enjoyed. It's laid out in a cute way, themed by book. I did feel the exhibits were a bit fluffy, heavy on film clips and book...More

I don't believe so. You could call and find out. It is self guided and there are many movie clips so I don't think it would be possible. It's not large enough for a docent tour. Read all of your Steinbeck books before you go!
