Definitely Recommend Freemark Abbey

$50 Appellation Tasting on a Sunday Afternoon

Looking for a place to end our Napa weekend on a high note, the manager of another winery recommended Freemark. We took the last seating of the day (3pm) and enjoys a wonderful, relaxing, and overall-delicious experience.

Todd was a wonderful server--incredibly knowledgeable about the wine (in a super-accessible way, and not at all the pretentious way Napa-ites sometimes can be) and a great conversationalist (even tolerating some pop quizzes from our table :)).

The wines were a great range, in flavor profiles, consistency, and price point. Definitely something for most-everyone. We got a few extra pours, too - including the viognier, which was a wonderful (but off-menu) recommendation from a manager at Luna Vineyards.

The grounds are beautiful, and definitely hit the stone-aesthetic of an Abbey pretty hard, but somehow it doesn't feel forced or out of place. There charm and beauty and of course many roses.

Absolutely recommend adding Freemark Abbey to your Napa itinerary.

Beautiful location, sat outside in the garden area which was absolutely beautiful. The staff were very friendly and informative making the tasting very fun and enjoyable for the group. The wines were delicious, wish there was something to nibble on to enhance the flavors even more. But we really enjoyed our time at Freemark Abbey. Would recommend stopping by...

Save your money!
Nov. 2020 • Friends
Three of us, adults/family, visited for wine tasting at $50 each. Upon arrival, went to check in for my reservation and was rudely stopped and told I wasn’t allowed inside, though it was an open space. The server assigned was friendly and knowledgeable about the wines; a little tasting of 6 reds. That’s it! Nothing else! That’s a lot of money for 6 sips of vino! For $150 we could have shared a very nice bottle of vino at a restaurant/wine bar with an appetizer or two. I had been wanting to visit Napa’s wine country and their wineries, but have been extremely disappointed! Yes, the scenery is beautiful and enjoyed the drive more than the tastings! I’m sorry, pandemic not an excuse! Practicing protocols requested by the abbey, with mask & social distancing you can still practice common courtesy and make someone feel welcome!

Tasting and Learning at Freemark Abbey
Jun. 2020
We went to Freemark Abbey with friends right as wine tasting rooms were opening up again. The staff was very helpful and conscious of the social distancing requirements and we felt very safe there enjoying wine tasting! We did the red wine tasting and Kim Johnson was our server. Kim is extremely knowledgeable about wines and shared with us her love for wine and Freemark Abbey wines in particular. She gave us new information about the resurgence of merlot grapes as well as tasting pointers. The "Partner's Blend" was one using merlot grapes. Delicious cabs and we could have spent more time tasting. This is a good winery to visit for all and has a lot of history as well since it was the 10th winery established and by a woman originally!

We were just driving by and recognized this winery from a great bottle of wine we had at dinner one night. We decided to stop for a quick tasting. Robin was our hostess and she was awesome. We learned so much and really enjoyed the wines.

Enjoy History and Great Wine at Freemark Abbey
Oct. 2019
Freemark Abbey also offers an array of remarkable tasting experiences from casual to exclusive.

Freemark Abbey was a winery and cellar as far back as 1886 when a Victorian widow became the first female winemaker on record in Napa Valley. Fast forward to 1976, Freemark Abbey was one of twelve U.S. wineries chosen to compete in “The Judgment of Paris” blind tasting and the only one with both a red and a white wine entry. We all know that California wines won in every category, propelling Napa Valley onto the world stage for wine.

If your favorite wine is a cab you must go to Freemark Abbey known for its Cabernet Sauvignon. You will be pleased with their big bold cabs!

Outstanding Educational Eine Tasting Experience
Jan. 2020 • Friends
I work in the wine industry in Napa Valley and brought dear friends to Freemark Abbey for a wine tasting experience. Thanks to our experienced wine educator Judy Reavis! We had an amazing time enjoying well crafted wines but Judy made the experience memorable sharing her knowledge of the history of the winery and Napa Valley. The crackers, charcuterie and cheese were delicious and made the tasting more enjoyable. We loved the Cabernet Bouchet, Sycamore and Howell Mountain Chardonnay. Keep it going!

Wine Tasting
Nov. 2019
My husband and I had our last wine tasting of the day here. The staff was very friendly and made us feel very welcomed. The wines were good and we bought two bottles of their whites. The newly renovated building is very pretty and contemporary. The large room we were seated in was very beautiful.

Rude!
Oct. 2019 • Couples
We were already planning to visit Freemark Abbey, and grabbed lunch on the way. The restaurant we went to happened to give us a complimentary tasting card for the winery.

When we walked in to do the tasting, the lady was friendly, however, when I presented our complimentary card, she became very rude and dismissive to us. She didn’t present the list of their wines, nor did she tell us anything about them.
The service was terrible and the wine was average.
Don’t give out complimentary passes if you are going to treat your customers like that!

Just when she thought we were just looking for free wine, we joined two wine clubs later that day!

Tasting
Sep. 2019
We enjoyed our tasting and appreciated that the tasting was private at a table instead of at a bar. Our host was knowledgeable and spent alot of time with us. We purchased a couple of bottles.
