I went when there was a large interactive display for children - they seemed to be really having a good time. The displays change on a regular basis, and there is a lot to observe. It isn't a place to "run" through in a hurry....More

The exhibits were not well done and followed no logical time frame. Much more information was available in the Wells Fargo Museum at Old Sacramento which is free unlike this Museum.

This is a small exhibit that covers lots of territory since the gold rush period. There is also a story of how Old Sacramento was restored, with both good and bad aspects of the project.

Easy to get to museum (short walk from Old Sacramento), and well worth the visit. Especially interesting is the presentation of the history of Asian immigrants being brought to California, and of their treatment during WWII.

A very well designed museum, this place does exactly what it purports to do; give the history of a very historic city! From the early days of Sutter's Fort, through the Gold Rush, and into California Statehood, this museum gives you the details of what...More
