The exhibits are fine as stand alone points. But there is no narrative thread to the place. Old pieces of placer gold on display. Some good pieces of old agricultural equipment.

This was my first time here and the staff at the front desk suggested a route through the lower and upper floors. Nice variety of exhibits and videos covering Sacramento history. The collection of old Sacramento Bee printing presses, period clothing, stage coach, saddle, tractor,...More

Last minute decision to visit the museum so unfortunately missed out on the underground tour. However this museum is very interesting and gave us a really good background history to such a beautiful place. We spent about 2 hours wandering the museum. Lots to see...More

Good hearted tour guides trying to make a 20 minute presentation last for 1.5 hours. The only word that comes to mind is “cheesy.” We just moved to Sac and want to experience our city. This is a tourist destination not a tour of substance....More

Did the Gold Fever Tour and the Underground Tour... fun history. Tour guides in period costume and maintained character throughout tours. Good way to spend time in Old Town!

Its not a big museum, but they have a pretty awesome underground tour I would recommend and you can easily kill an hour or two wandering around the museum and looking at the exhibits

A small museum in "Old Sacremento" provides a trip through time that explains the beginning of the state capital. The gold rush days and importance of river travel are emphasized. A short video is a good way to put the information in perspective. One hour...More

The Underground Tour which leaves on the hour from the History Museum was very interesting and gave us access to view the underground areas of buildings that were raised after the floods in the 1860s. Very interesting history.

I came here just to see what it's like and I wasn't disappointed. If you decide to visit, I recommend purchasing the underground tour ($15/person), which entitles you to visit the museum for just $4. The highlight of the visit was definitely the underground tour...More

Why is an upper case called ‘upper case’? What did the people of Old Sac do to prevent flooding? Besides the wonderful tale of the beginnings of Sacramento, the museum offers lots of pictures and everyday clothes and tools. Kids will be occupied by guessing...More
