At the beginning the trail is wide & rather flat. You walk through a line of trees that arch over the trail. After a little, you cross over a creek with a little waterfall below it. Then the climbing begins over large rocks. At some places there are small streams of water flowing down the middle of the trail. You... More

Went today and could see all the way to the ocean - if I squinted! The trail gives you a good workout since most of it is straight up. Like that you can see Ramona on the back side and to San Diego and the ocean on the front side!

The entire hike is a moderately challenging uphill 8-9 miles and the trail can be rocky. No water offered. So, be prepared on all accounts. But the prep and effort are worth it. The views West towards the metro area are phenomenal. The views of the wilderness in every other direction are breathtaking. It can be very hot during the... More

This is an easy mountain near Poway but when you're at the top it is a great view as it's one of the highest around. It's OK for kids as there are no steep grades, but is is long on a hot day.

Recommend doing this hike earlier in the day as it gets crowded and hot. It's strenuous on some parts of the trail but definitely worth it. The views are amazing especially on a clear day. There are facilities at the bottom but not very clean on the day we went. Take plenty of water and if you can't find parking... More

I've brought a lot of dust home on the bottom of my boots from Iron Mountain. Its very close, an easy hike with a great view as your reward. I see a lot of hikers with dogs and no extra water for the pooches, so please be kind to your dogs. It can get hot out there.

The trail system which starts at the Iron Mountain Trail Head offers several interesting hiking options including the popular winding, 3 mile long, 1000 ft climb to the top of Iron Mountain. They're all worth trying. On a cool clear day, they're magnificent! The well maintained parking lot at the junction of Poway Rd and Highway 67 has quite a... More

The view is beautiful.... all the way to the top, and then you can see enjoy a panoramic view of "America's Finest City"....the north inland portion of San Diego county just east of Poway ["The City in the Country'] on the way up toward Ramona. Many people take this hike, so there is definitely a feeling of safety in numbers,... More
