Very very narrow road to enter the site.
Branches rubbing against the roof of the RV
We are told that the location is for RVs with a height of 13 feet and we are 10 feet and 11 inches tall and we have hung in several places.
We notified the people responsible for the park and we were told that nature is like that and we don't cut the branches.
Very expensive for a park without any services, with paid shower and only 2 showers for the entire park because one was under maintenance for the entire duration of our stay!
In Canadian that represents $73.00 per night.

Just got back from a relaxing three nights camping at Pt. Mugu State Park. The beach is right on PCH, just past the LA County line in Ventura. While the actual campground (Sycamore Canyon) is situated on the other side of PCH, there is a tunnel that links the campground to the beach so access is not a problem, although you do have to climb over some large rocks to get to the sand. (You can also just walk over by crossing PCH, or drive over and use the lot.)
The actual campground is 58 spaces, so not too big. Although "sold out" it was not full and never felt crowded. While not all spaces are created equal, most are spacious and almost all offer some shade. Some sites are even hidden behind trees and bushes, so you really feel secluded and cannot see your fellow campers. (We lucked out with one of those sites.)
The campground in nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains, and as far as State campgrounds go, it is beautifully scenic! There is access from the campground to hiking and biking trails, and we took advantage of both. (We even spotted a pair of deer on our bike ride.)
The beach across from the campgrounds was lovely and clean. Our only complaint was that the waves broke so close to shore that swimming/boogie boarding was difficult. In fact, we saw a rip tide rescue. Perhaps it was just the time of year (late August), but if boogie boarding or surfing is on your to-do list, you might want to head a few miles south. We went to a beach across from Neptune's Net (a local restaurant on PCH) and there was decent surfing there.
The only negative was the bathrooms. Although they were regularly cleaned, not all pay showers were working, so there was a wait. (Don't forget to bring your quarters.)

This review is about the Sycamore Cove part of the Point Mugu State park. This is just the day use area of Point Mugu and not the campground.
Ever since we first time visited Sycamore Cove we were surprised by the friendly atmosphere here. Yes, in summertime, it may be crowded and difficult to find a parking spot. That is because this place offers you everything that you wish at the beach. Nice natural setting, with many trees that offers good shade in summer, large beach area, picnic tables, barbeques, fire pits, everything is great!
The most enjoyable thing is that this park allows you to bring alcolholic drinks as long as you do not take glass bottles on the beach. This is a huge difference compared to Malibu or Santa Monica where you are constantly haunted by the rangers that come and inspect your coolers.
They also allow pets as long as they are on leash.
Talking about the rangers here, I only have good words about them. Very friendly and always looking to help you, to make your visit enjoyable. You won't belive this but once they even moved the big trash bins to create extra parking spaces for us.
The only drawback is that the water here is very rough, and the bottom is covered with pebbles instead of fine sand. But that does not prevent you from cooling off in the hot summer days.
We always return here with pleasure, and we can only pray that this place will remain unchanged!

My family and I traveled here all the way from Sacramento with our camper. We were planning to stay for a week but only made it 2 days. The mosquitoes are BRUTAL. These were the exact words of our camping neighbor leaving the same day we were coming in. How bad could they be? So so terrible. We were all covered in mosquitoes bites the first day we were there and by the time we left we thought we were slowly dying. We bought all the arsenal available but nothing can even dent the amount of mosquitos that attack you. Will never go back unless something wiped them out. Consider yourself warned!!!

We took our dog here for a nice day in the sun. Well 15 min. after setting up our area we found a tick walking on our towel. Thought it was just one , but a little while later my daughter found one on her leg. While freaking out we look down and there are 3 more on our pop up. I will NEVER go back to this beach!!! YUCK!!!!

We stay at the Thornehill broome campsite every year. It's great, campsites are large and open. You have a full view of the ocean and all its wildlife. This trip we have seen humpback whales, dolphins, sea lions and pelicans. Great place to stay for the money. Arrive early for a good spot.

Thornhill Broome Beach camping allows you to camp on the beach. Trailers & Rvs are can park along the roadside next to the sand with your windows facing the ocean. Tent campers set up on the sand. This campsite is part of Point Mugu State Park. No one blocks your view of the sea & we saw dolphins & seals swimming not far from the water's edge. With a fire pit ring & table, we enjoyed our meals out on the beach. At night, it was wonderful to look down the coast & see all the campfires light up along the beach. We flew kites during the day. The way to the water was rocky, but in March, it was too cold to swim. An enjoyable camping spot with no hassle parking & a beautiful view of the ocean. We loved it!

Located a few miles north of Malibu. We looked at Sycamore and at Thornhill Broom sites. Thornhill is only good if you have an RV. Thornhill is so close to the water, I was worried that crashing waves would be too loud for sleeping in our tents. Also no trees or shade at Thornhill, and Thornhill beach is too rocky to walk on.
We stayed at Sycamore site. Clean sites with lots of trees & shade. There is a hiking and mountain bike trail or walk about 4 or 5 minutes to a sandy beach. Dogs allowed on-leash at the beach. The Rangers were nice. Our site had a fire pit with a grill (nice detail because-we forgot our bbq!). We had 5 tents on our site & 3 trucks with plenty of room. Sycamore is a similar layout to Leo Carrillo, but no general store. 1 car included in fees, 12 dollars per car for each additional.

We like tenting it with our kids and friends and family. We have been to many camping sites in LA, and this has been the best beach camping we have experienced. We got a great spot to tent. It was large enough for our kids to run around, and we were lucky to have great neighbors (2 different ones). The restrooms were kept clean, the hosts were a wonderful, sweet couple. Tons of trails to walk or run. I did both. The main trail is big enough for your jogging stroller. The beach is a short walk away or you can drive the car across PCH. The kids loved just being under the tunnel on the beach collecting rocks and getting their feet and bottoms wet. The water was freezing, but we got wonderful 70 degree weather. We are already looking for the next available spot at Pt. Mugu.

I absolutely LOVE this campground. It' secluded, quiet, and has a gorgeous beach. Fell asleep to crickets and frogs. It's very cold even in the summer months, especially at night. The waves are rather big and strong. Bathrooms are nice. Separate toilets rather than stalls are nice for privacy. Showers can be difficult to get a warm shower...forget about a hot shower. The upper numbered sites are a bit more secluded and along the creek. We stayed in #35 and were very happy. Kids didn't want to leave even though we were freezing.

What is the trail like from Sycamore Campground to the beach? Mostly concerned with steepness and drop-offs...I'm hoping it's fairly flat and safe! Thanks!

Hi Danny,
I read your review about Point Magu Park. You also mentioned about other spots, hope you can share other spots with nice views on or over looking the ocean where I can take my wife for the first time visiting. I am looking for a day trip where we can take a picnic basket or small bbq grill either or. Thank you!

Hi!
I’m camping at Thronehill this weekend And one of our friends is coming after work Saturday night when the entrance is closed and we’ll have over the 3 car limit. Is he able to park on PCH overnight?
Also has anyone done walk up camping here? I’m trying to figure out how early I should get there on Friday for a walk up.

Reserve America always says campground is full. Is there another way to contact the park? Also. What are the chances of getting a space by just showing up?

Yes, there is an entrance fee and varies during different time of year and of course holidays. Remember, it is a state park. The place can get very crowded depending on holidays. The campground will get full.
