Caples Lake was still frozen over This is a wonderful place for year round activities from skiing, snow shoeing to fishing, boating and hiking... More

DO NOT TURN LEFT AT THE EL CARISO / HOTSHOT CAMP. NOT A CAMPGROUND. I am new to Cleveland National Forest. In the evening of March 24, 2017 I spent an hour or so looking through my GPS and found various campgrounds sprinkled throughout the Cleveland National Forest. Not really having any particular destination in mind, I choose to head... More

We enjoyed taking a walk and going fishing at beautiful Caples Lake in the El Dorado Forest. This lake is near Carson Pass and also Kirkwood area. We often times catch trout. It is also a boating and kayaking lake, There is also a resort. The El Dorado Forest is also very nice.

Really enjoyed my day trip to Eldorado National Forest. Unlike Tahoe, or Yosemite, or the other more popular forests, Eldorado is delightfully overlooked by most, and this adds to the charm. The Forest is green as any, covered in creeks and much less litter than many forests in the area.

Tony needs to stay home. Black bears are active in Desolation Wilder- ness. As a result of the availability of improp- erly stored human food, greater numbers of bears remain active at higher elevations than in the past. Bears have extremely keen noses and are attracted to food smells as well as to the scents of personal products such as... More

This natural resource is a place of great beauty, it's a place you can get out and do fun outdoor activities : ride a bike, swim, canoe, camp, fish or just sit under a tree. To learn where the forest starts and stops, go on line. There... More
