Nature Walk

There seems to be fewer butterflies then in past years but the weather was cold and the Monarchs not too active. Still, a fun and educational easy to visit landmark in Pismo

More of a cautionary tale - was passing by and my spouse wanted to visit. Cold (55 degrees) and light rain. There was a naturalist there and one butterfly (which he explained was a female). Cannot say what the place would be like on a nice day - from the other reviews, apparently a lot nicer. Just glad we did... More

An easy stop if you are passing this way, and there is no cost--just pull off the road and get out of the car. The butterflies are amazing.

Surprisingly very small. Like that they have telescopes set up to get a close up, but then when you see one view you kind of seen them all. Walked around a bit, took a picture or two, but it's a place to visit once and then done. Very little parking on street outside. Don't know if it's busy how crazy... More

This is a main area to see these monarchs who live longer than other monarchs. A docent explained puddling to us so that added to our knowledge. We went close to mid-day and earlier or later might have been better for lighting and activity.

This location is beautiful no matter the time of year, but if you want to see butterflies you do want to visit November through February when the butterflies are in Pusmo and not on their migration route elsewhere. You also want to visit preferably during the mornings. The butterfly sleep in the trees at night and don't start moving until... More

We are fascinated by nature and enjoyed seeing the butterfly grove. Fascinating how those little insects can travel so far and find the same place year after year. Be sure and go on a warmer day. They sleep in large bunches if it is very cold. Fun to see such large quantities of monarchs fluttering about. Worth taking some time... More

Came during peak season and was blown away at how many butterflies there were! Great idea for families. Quite small though, you can visit the entire grounds in 30 minutes.

Loved this self guided walk through the butterfly grove, continue past it and the adjoining campground down to Pismo Beach. The butterflys did not disappoint. Took way too many photographs. Leave that to the professionals.

I've been to the Monarch Butterfly grove a number of times over the years. It is a must-visit place for me if I'm in Pismo Beach in the winter time, which is when I generally come here. Usually for a three or four day weekend between November and January. Even just going to see the butterflies is an amazing gift,... More
