Description:

The Merrill Family's agricultural heritage and grape growing history dates...

The Merrill Family's agricultural heritage and grape growing history dates back at least 8 generations on California's Central Coast. A former family ranch still is home to a grape arbor planted in the 19th century. Today Dana and Marsha Merrill and son Matthew farm the vineyards, while Matthew's winemaking is complemented by winemaker par excellent, Jim Shumate.

After nearly 30 years of growing grapes for many of the finest wineries in California, ranging from ultra premium small producers to the largest international brands, the Merrill's decided to produce their own wines. In addition to the family estate, the finest blocks of grapes from Santa Barbara and Monterey Counties are selected from vineyards managed by a sister firm, Mesa Vineyard Management, Inc. All wines produced are exclusively farmed by the Merrills who believe that control from planting and pruning through harvest, fementation and cellaring is critical for success. It also ensure a uniform dedication to Sustainability, which led our recent Certification to the SIP program within the Central Coast Vineyard Team.

The family believes in community and industry involvement. Dana Merrill was the first San Luis Obispo County Chair of the California Assn of Winegrape Growers, a charter member of the pioneering vineyard Sustainability group, the Central Coast Vineyard Team and is a past two term Director of the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance.

We had fun stopping into Pomar Junction, they have an old rail can and caboose next to the tasting room and the grounds were very inviting. The staff in the tasting room were excellent. I thought their Rooster Red (blend of 7 varietals) was great.

Pomar Junction has some greats wines. I tasted the wine before I went for a visit. The winery is East of the 101 and definitely has a farm to Winery vibe. Surrounded by vines the tasting room is like you are stepping into someone's house to taste what they just made. Has a nice outdoor area as well. Great Views... More

Pomar Junction is way out south east of Paso and is in a beautiful setting with several real train cars on the property. We were in a hurry as we had to get to our last winery of the trip after Pomar so we had a quick tasting. I really liked a lot of their wines. In particular, the Brooster... More

I've visited Pomar Junction once before and was motivated to purchase wines above my usual price point, but I did not have a strong positive response to anything I tasted on this visit. Nevertheless, our server was a seasoned professional, and we enjoyed a pleasant conversation.

My wife and I can usually do 5 or 6 wineries in a day. This was our last stop, and I had quite a bit of wine throughout the day. From what I remember I thought their wine was really good. I left buying 6 bottles of wine. I also bought some spicy mustard that they were selling in their... More

I went here for a wedding, so I can't speak directly to the wine tasting experience, but it was GORGEOUS. Great place to relax with a glass of wine and enjoy a beautiful sunset over rolling hills and vineyards. They also have a few old train cars which are fun for picture-taking.

Good selection of whites, excellent pinot noir and some other reds. Very friendly hostess who gave us lots of good tips for area wineries. A bit out of the way, but worth it.

The South of France is known for its wines. Travel through the region you find long winding roads and endless grapes and vines nestled among little villages. And the wines, well the French have been making wines for over 400 years so they set the "standard". And now so does Paso Robles, California, in particular the double gold award winning... More

It is worth a short drive to Templeton to go to Pomar Junction. Terrific reds and whites. You can have your tasting outdoors looking at the trains and growing vines as far as the eye can see. Tasting room staff was delightful, warm and made it a great experience. Don't miss this stop in your wine day.
