My friend and I were going to hike elsewhere, but the sun ended up being stronger than we anticipated so we picked this area as it has quite a bit of coverage along the trails. Although the hike starts out in an open area, soon you are shaded by trees. The terrain changes quite a bit, which makes for a... More

This area offers some of the most fantastic views in the area! It's right in the name, beautiful mountain. There are some options for trails so you can go shorter/longer depending on what you're looking for. Can get windy at the top so bring layers!

Twenty minutes drive from the high speed Silicone Valley on Page Mill Road took me to this preserve. I few minutes of walk I found myself lost in the nature, the only sound I could hear were the birds singing and drips of running water in its creek. Take sun protection, whichever applied to you, and a walking stick, you... More

I like to come here to relax. The hikes are moderate but almost anyone can do any of them if you pace yourself and bring water. It can be hot in the warm months, but I like the heat. At that time it can very still and in the evening full of the sounds of crickets. Beautiful views of one... More

The Stevens Creek trail is lovely and lush. It's been dry so I haven't seen much water in it. There is a fair amount of climbing up and down on this trail - I wouldn't recommend it for youngsters or the elderly. The campsite has (non-potable but clean-looking and -tasting) water from a tap and an outhouse. The sunrises are... More

Monte Bello Open Space Preserve is a beautiful place in the mountains. Its also close to San Andreas Earthquake Trail. There are a number of hiking trails. There is a free parking lot to park at while one is hiking.

A gorgeous hike - you can actually see the hills rising above either side of the fault line. Beautiful views. Bring a sweater and water.

The Monte Bello Open Space Preserve is a "must do" if visitors to Stanford University and the Silicon Valley have an extra few hours. The park is located at the top of Page Mill Road above Palo Alto, California that can be accessed via car from Page Mill Road; or, for the adventurous, up fire roads from Palo Alto. This... More
