With the June heat, we tried to pick the best time of day to do a short hike in Palm Springs . We chose this trail because of its proximity to our hotel. We went at 8:30am, which turned out to be a little late....More
I'm only mentioning the loose rocks because it only takes one little slip and fall, a bounce down on the ankle in an awkward position, and then a trip to the orthopedist for a surgery date. This is the voice of experience talking (my Waterloo...More
This is a great trail and surely one of my favorite local ones. It is an easy/ moderate climb with an elevation gain of roughly 900 feet (275 m). Once at the top you are treated to a panoramic view of the Coachella Valley and...More
I like hiking but boy this one was tough. You really do have to be careful here. There is not an easy cut out trail, at all points on the hike. There are a lot of rocks to maneuver. But, the views are spectacular. I...More
This traihead is located at the end or Ramon St. just off Palm Canyon Drive. There is parking for about ten cars so get there early. A early start also helps with the heat. This is a steep well maintained trail with many switchbacks. It...More
Challenging hike of approximately 8 km round trip with 1500ft elevation gain. It took us 2.5 hrs which included some breaks for water and lots of photos. We had a beautiful, sunny day that wasn’t too hot. I’d recommend dressing in layers as it is...More
Ran near sunrise from downtown hotel to Lykken Trailhead at end of Ramon. Early start was essential due to unusual November heat. Rocky exposed and steep trail so many sections up I just fast hiked. Gets hot fast so take plenty of fluids. Ran north...More

I have had five dogs at one time and I would think twice before taking them on this trail. It's way too easy for a dog to fall or hurt its paws on the rocks. Also, if you do take your dog(s), you should think about doing it early in the day because it gets very hot in Palm Springs. There's a dog park behind City Hall on Tahquitz (near the airport) for them to play together if your dog plays well with other dogs. People take their dogs with them to VillageFest on Thursdays too but, again, not a good idea. Way too many people to be comfortable for the dog.
