We arrived around 9:00 AM on a Friday in January, and the trail was very busy already. The trail is fairly wide and clear, but there are a lot of steep inclines that will require sure footing and a lot of energy! We were able...More

Wonderful views of Palm Springs and the mountains start early in the hike. Perfect for an early morning hike before it gets too hot--even in January! Doable in in running shoes (as we did) but would have been easier had we brought hiking boots.

Moderate hike on a narrow rocky path if you do the whole South Lykken. Many just go up to the picnic tables and back the same way. After the picnic tables you have done most of the uphill. I went from south to north. Was...More

Very pretty. Travel at night or early morning or you will get hot. Especially if traveling to the Palm Springs aerial tram.

A short run from our hotel (Hotel California, recommended!) then a solid work out climbing 300M (to the picnic tables on the ridge); carry on to N Lykken trail head or return. So close, convenient and fabulous views.

My wife and I did this hike early in the day when the temp was still in the mid 60's. There is literally no shade the entire way up to the picnic tables and the hike is definitely rated as moderate. Many areas are narrow...More

After attempting - and wisely abandoning - Museum Trail, we were directed to the Lykken Trail, which was much more doable and enjoyable with our 4-year old. We got a late start and, with no shade or rest areas, we made it to a rocky...More

Rigorous but not too challenging hike. First half hour is steepish and rocky then it gets flatter. Gorgeous views and light around sunset and early morning. Beautifully situated picnic tables on a peak if you want to bring food.

We took the S. Lykken Trail that was steep and narrow that took us to a flat peak with two picnic tables. Out and back it's about two miles with a 1000 foot elevation. It's relatively steep when compared to the flat trail which takes...More
