Wife and I go out of our way to visit anything "National", or managed by the NPS. We read about this National Monument while staying in Palm Springs and made the trek. What a terrific Monument, very upscale, beautiful, incredibly well-marked and informative, and loaded with dedicated volunteers. We talked with two volunteers extensively, enjoyed the Visitor Center displays, learned... More

Whether you approach from the east our the west, and whether you're hiking or driving, the views, wildlife, flora and fauna will never disappoint you. Every day is different, every time of day casts different colors and shadows, and every season brings different icing on the cake. Hwy 74 is a favorite approach, as is the I-10/111.

I have hiked in these mountains for many years. The trails can be challenging but the views and scenery are worth the effort. The easy was is to take the Palm Springs Tram.

10 miles out of Palm Desert, you have a grand view of the Palm Springs area. Worth the drive out of town. Be careful driving up the mountains.

We did the Randall Henderson around 9 am in late Sept and it was blazing already. Good trail and very well marked and maintained. The visitor center and garden were very nice and worth a walk through. The trail is about 90 minutes with a decent but manageable climb but be prepared; absolutely no shade. I think it was the... We were on a mission to see many California landscapes over spring break. We went to Pinnacles (must see); Channel Islands (must see) and decided to visit the desert. So, through LA traffic we drove. It was so worth the drive. The visitor center staff was pleasant and knowledgable regarding the flora and fauna. The park includes beautiful hills/mountains. The... More

we tried the randall henderson trail this year and can highly recommend it. it's about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour walk on a moderately difficult trail. lots of flowers, a tortoise or two, bees and big horn sheep are the attractions. the trail has three loops and i would take them all including the climb up to the top.which...
