This is a terrible restaurant, over priced and low quality food. They close the bathrooms at 3:00 pm leaving the golfers who finish after that with no facilities!
The city of Pacific Grove made a big blunder by giving the food concession to this disaster. Avoid on your trip to Monterey.

Came for the ocean views on the back 9, went to the pro shop, was told we won’t get 18 holes in, so we settled to play the front 9. As I asked to get a bucket to go to the range, the guy at the desk said that I won’t have time, even though I had 25 minutes before my tee time. He then informed me he was trying to get me out early for some reason. The front 9 was ridden with fairway grass longer and patchier than my front yard and the greens had an abundance of splotches and unfixed ball marks. Pace of play was absolutely HORRIBLE. No player assistant riding around, single in front of us was playing 2 balls(pretty sure he was an employee), and this was after we got sent out early. We finished our round, then we saw groups BEHIND us proceed to head to the back 9 and continue to play. Not sure why they were able to play, and we were told not to when we were really only there for the back 9. Also, the employee in front of us played two holes on the back. Not sure why we were the only ones not allowed to play on the back, but probably a good thing to not endure the crappy conditions that were still waiting to be played on. Spend the extra 20 bucks and play at del monte 20 minutes away from here.

Played Del Monte in the morning and this place was our choice hoping to get a nice sunny day so we could enjoy the views. I thought the front nine was boring and nothing to write home about. Course conditions were satisfactory. Greens were in excellent shape but many parts of the fairway could use some watering. Bunkers? I was not once in them so really didn’t pay attention to its condition. Hit hole #11 and the vibe absolutely changed. The brown spots on the fairway didn’t seem to matter because for seven holes the scenery was breathtaking and it was all worth it. I’l love to play #11 through #17 over and over again. I’d come back simply for the views.

I play a lot of golf all over the place. People say a lot of great things about Pacific Grove, but I don’t see it. It’s a short course that’s pretty easy. The only thing that gives it a little bump is the ocean views on the back nine. Other than that the course isn’t that interesting.
The conditioning was decent, though rough around the edges like most muni courses. The greens were a little bumpy, but looked nice.
I thought the course was fun to play, but the consensus in our group of golfers from all over was that this would be the worst course in our respective towns. Take away the ocean and it’s pretty average.

Love this place...especially the back 9! Wow...what beauty. Saw deer all over the course just like at Pebble. Every hole on back 9 has ocean views. Windy and cold so be prepared. 17th hole right on the 17 mile drive. What a bargain to play here. Front 9 very basic but back 9 makes it iconic! Dont miss it!!!

Spent a long weekend in Monterey, was able to play Spanish Bay and Pacific Grove. Spanish Bay was a beautiful course, part of the Pebble Beach resort, absolutely first class experience.
But all I can think about is getting back to Pacific Grove.
The front 9 gets a bad rap on most every review I’ve seen, but I thought holes 3, 6, 7, and 8 were great, even though not as scenic as the rest.
Of course the back 9 is the star, I had to stop myself a couple times to take it all in. Crashing waves, barking sea lions, wild deer in the fairway, the view of the lighthouse…it was just amazing.
The greens were just as good (and just as fast I thought) as Spanish Bay. Fairways were in good shape, and everything just seemed perfect.
The feel of this course is comforting. The staff at the pro shop were great, and the restaurant/grill was better than you’d expect. (Breakfast burrito!)
It’s most definitely not a ‘poor man’s Pebble Beach’. It’s not a super-fancy resort course.
It felt like home.

We enjoyed playing a round of golf again at Pacific Golf Municipal Golf Course. It was a lot of fun. The course had just reopened due to the virus. The greens were in great shape. Staff was nice.

My wife and I were staying near Monterey this week and decided to play nine holes at the Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course late one afternoon. I had played the course before, but it was her first time. Neither of us are very good, but we enjoy getting out on the course every so often just for fun. For those of you unfamiliar with the course lay-out at Pacific Grove, the front nine meander through lush green fairways bordered by cypress and eucalyptus trees. The back nine are generally regarded as the more spectacular holes as they take you down towards the coastline and offer ocean views to rival those enjoyed at the world renowned course down the road at Pebble Beach. Our twilight nine holes cost my wife and I $25.00 each. I defy anyone to find a better deal than that! Everyone that we encountered at the course from the pro shop to the cart return was courteous and helpful. Our 4:40 pm tee time endured that there was nobody immediately behind trying to overtake us. There was even a grill serving food if you were so inclined. So, if you are looking to play a little golf, but think that the green fees at Pebble Beach are a little beyond your budget, give Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course a look. I guarantee that you won't regret it!

Good value golf on the Monterey peninsula. Front nine is a tree lined parkland. Back nine is more links like with views of the ocean. Well looked after and in good condition. Not too challenging which makes it good fun for holiday golf.

Golfed Pacific Grove on 05-22-04 and had a great time. The weather was absolutely perfect and you cannot ask for a better view while golfing for such affordable green fees. Played 18 with 6 buddes (split in two) and had a blast. Could not believe the low green fees for such a great time! If $400 - $500 to golf at Pebble Beach is too much for you as it was for us, golf at Pacific Grove and then go a few miles to Pebble Beach and have some pictures taken at the 18th hole.

Do you have a tee time for 9 holes preferably on the back 9 at 2 pm today Sat for two and can we rent clubs? If so what is the rate /fees?
Written 14 July 2018
Does the course allow 9-hole play? If so, do they permit starting on the 10th hole (assuming there’s an open spot, of course).

I did appreciate D0dgerDan’s answer and found it helpful. Two things I didn’t appreciate: 1) my daughter grabbing my phone and hitting the thumbs down button, and 2) TripAdvisor’s rules on “changing a vote”...

What is your dress code for both male and female? May I bring food on the course? What are the green fees?
Written 17 April 2017
We both wore shorts and golf shirts. Maybe phone the course for exact details.

Is there just a driving range to use without actually playing the course? Thanks.
Written 13 May 2015
Yes there is , you need to buy the tokens at the pro shop and the ball machine is on the range. They will direct you but you can park at the bottom of the road and walk between the 17th green and 18th tee.
