My favorite hike of the Redwoods

Prairie Creek by far has the best hikes and scenery of the Redwoods. Completely worth the long drive north, the gigantic trees and ferns have no words to describe them. The... read more

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is a great escape from the craziness of city life. There are hiking trails that give you plenty of opportunities to walk along the giant redwoods.

What a beautiful hike!! Don't miss the aptly named "Big Tree," a tree so wide around that people wanted to chop it down and turn it into a dance floor.

Prairie Creek by far has the best hikes and scenery of the Redwoods. Completely worth the long drive north, the gigantic trees and ferns have no words to describe them. The trail heads start immediately at the Paveway where there is ample parking (at least during the off season December month). It was an awe to walk thru the well... More

It is hard to explain the absolute majestic grandeur (can't think of better terms to use) of this drive down through gigantic redwood trees. You feel like you have somehow stumbled back in time to a prehistoric forest where mankind seems small and out of place. This is one of those where pictures will never do it justice (although I... Someone else recommended stopping at Visitors Center first and get advice on what to do and where to go to meet your needs. Good idea. We didn't know where to stop and so got over whelmed. Finally we got some advice and enjoyed our three mild hikes. After a while even these big trees blend together. Not their fault...there are... More

Very nice place to take a walk. Kids got their patches for the edventure quest. We walked on a loop trail that was easy enough we were able to use the stroller for the baby. We followed the signs pointing to "big tree" and sure enough we found a big tree! Great walk with excellent trees and views of nature

We stayed five nights early September at Elk Prairie Campground. It was frustrating since we had our dog w us on the trip--he could not be left at home due to his pacemaker--and so, we could not walk on a single trail in the Park (dogs not allowed on any trails in U.S. Federal or State parks; there are in... First I would recomend you stop at the visitor center and tell them what kind of trail you want and how far you want to walk. We said pretty easy and about 4 miles and they created a circle for us... doing part of Prairie Creek Trail (loved it), Big Tree and then Cathedral of Tree's We liked Prairie Creek... More

There are many trails to see tall trees. I would have a plan because there are so many trails with huge trees. Check out "the big tree". The drive through there is easy and very scenic. If you are limited on time yet want to take a short trail check out Lady Bird Johnson.

We were on our way south from Oregon and had a wonderful hike through the woods along the Redwood Creek Trail. Forest and ocean - this experience stays with me and will do so for a very long time.
