Set in a beautiful old building right downtown, this library constitutes an important archive. Some nice art work inside. Very helpful staff.

Small place but significant. Library, archive and museum, dedicated to the important history of African Americans in Oakland. All set in a beautiful Carnegie library building that is lovingly-preserved.

The museum is located on the second floor. The library is on the first floor. There were videos and poster board displays of early African American migration to Oakland. There was lots of information on the Black Panther Party and women of the Civil Rights...More

Small, not much to it, but impressive in its displays and the breadth and depth of information. Focuses mostly on the Oakland and Bay areas.

We really enjoyed this museum. First, I want to qualify this by saying my wife and I are African American. That being said, this is an interesting history lesson for everyone interested in Civil rights, and urban development. The exhibit was nice and the library...More
