This museum has the most fabulous exhibits that are carefully thought out. The building inside is completely renovated and lovely. It's Beaaux Arts building inside and outside. Well worth a visit!!

The museum and archive is in a beautifully restored Carnegie library building. The exhibit about Oakland's African American history is well-told and interesting--lots of movements have come from here. Set in a beautiful old building right downtown, this library constitutes an important archive. Some nice art work inside. Very helpful staff.

Small place but significant. Library, archive and museum, dedicated to the important history of African Americans in Oakland. All set in a beautiful Carnegie library building that is lovingly-preserved.

The museum is located on the second floor. The library is on the first floor. There were videos and poster board displays of early African American migration to Oakland. There was lots of information on the Black Panther Party and women of the Civil Rights...More
