I came here for the 70th Annual Spring Rose Show on 5/7/17, located on the Lakeside Park Garden Center. There were plenty of beautiful roses displayed on vases and picture frames. A couple of the roses were in bowls of water. Outside the garden center...More

The bonsais are very impressive. They are very detailed in terms of replicating the image of larger trees. It will take you some time to go through all of them.

I have been to the lake for years, but only discovered the garden few month ago. It's a nice garden with one area for bonsai exhibition. I believe it's heavily relies on volunteers to maintain it, thus, still has room to improve...

Garden is not well kept but it is like a forgotten hide away. Around the paths there are benches to rest and watch the birds. Not a fancy garden but a nice quiet walk. Forget you are in the city. Bring your friends and relax.

Small oasis from walk around Lake Merritt. Enjoyed the collections of Vireya Rhododendron in blooms. Beautiful paths through sections of succulent, palms, roses, Japanese garden, and a community garden. Wonderful place to sit and relax awhile.

This is an area near Lake Merritt in Oakland. It seems like they try to make it a nice place for locals, but it's a little sketchy around this area. You pay to park here, and then you can walk around Lake Merritt. It's too...More

I visited late summer. Gardens were in full bloom. Seating spaces were conducive to meditation, reading, resting. Very well laid out and even though there were several summer childrens groups visiting, their was not interference for a quiet walking visit.

Is this the same Lakeside park that used to have a laughing train? We loved this park for that train. Is this Fairyland? Was it resold/refurbished/remade?

Oops. Nope, that is 699 Bellevue Avenue, Oakland, CA 94610 You can see pictures at the Fairyland web site. I still have a key to the talking boxes which is what got me looking.
Hi there, Can we bring food/have a picnic there? Also is it safe in the evening?
