Walk around the lake because it’s beautiful and relaxing. Worth the time and energy, and it seems others agree. It isn’t a busy attraction, even at lunchtime, on a weekday at least. Fresh air, sunny skies, and a wonderful view. Just brilliant.

Had my friend take me to the Lake Merritt Boathouse for lunch. We parked on the opposite side of the lake and walked over. Great place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Oaklanders have long loved the long walk around Lake Merritt. See some splendid architecture, go past lovely parks, enjoy the urban ambience. And the water. And then take a break and have a beverage in the Grand Lake area.

Visited the botanical garden (especially the bonsai), and strolled along the lake. We enjoyed the flora and fauna. Canoes and pedal boats on the lake look like fun.

Walking around the lake is our favorite! It’s really wonderful now when the migrating ducks come thru, as well as home to many herons, egrets, pelicans, cormorants.
