We liked the clean, new area. Modern feel. Walked around. Nice evening. Can't wait till all buildings are completed-bridge to hotel area!

Was not a lot going on when we passed through, but it was a Monday in January so I didn’t expect a lot but it looked pretty bleak.

We went during the afternoon, thinking there'd be some shops and places to sit. Not so much... There's a number of restaurants (many of which were closed during our 3pm visit) and a few bars and pretty much nothing else except a small log cabin...More

If you're in Oakland you need to get down here. it's pet friendly. lots of cool outdoor restaurants and a very safe, friendly and relaxed feel. Worth the short walk from Oakland city center (about 2o minute walk).

Come see the waterfront along the estuary. Some great walking paths, mixed in with the restaurants and cafes. Lovely part of Oakland, stuff to see.

Our hotel was within a hefty walking distance from the square. There are a few places to eat, and cute lodgings and shops. From there one can get on the ferry to San Francisco, which we did. Good place to take photos, but smaller than...More

Good spot to get the ferry to SF or for food or drinks. We thought Plank was fun and Yoshi was good for food. Every so now and then a train passes through (softly). Can come across some beggars or homeless people.

One of the nicer areas of Oakland (which can be a little dirty and seedy in places) for a restaurant meal, within around 10 minutes walk of the centre.

My two cents worth, though this doesn't directly address your question. Check if you could book a room with a water view at the Waterfront Hotel with a heated outdoor salt water pool, a fireplace in the lobby. A decent... More

Yes - There are a couple of parking structures and lots. Parking in the structure closest to the ferry is validated if you take the ferry.
