Old time style

Everything about this place reeks of any time. Check out the woman's bathroom that was built to please Bette Davis.

Movie Premier of Above the Best
Jun. 2019
Just wanted to give a belated shout out and thanks to Vet Net, Working Wardrobes and Assemblyman William P. Brough for their support in hosting a premiere of Above the Best in Newport Beach California at the historic Lido Theater. It was a magnificent event that was very well attended and received. Additional thanks are due to the Lido Bottleworks for hosting the get together before the screening with some very special food and drinks on the waterfront in Newport Beach! This is an iconic venue to view a movie! Thank you!

Fantastic Theater
Jun. 2018 • Couples
The Lido is a well maintained, historic theater in Newport Beach.

It has a single screen, which means that its seating capacity is huge. You will never have a problem finding good seat, even with popular first run movies. The staff is uniformly friendly and polite. There are nice dining options within walking distance.

The challenge is that because it is a single screen theater, it is very programming dependent. It is best for festivals, or other types of specialty programming. They have run summer surf movie series that are great. It is a perfect place to watch an older movie.

Charming movie house

Charming, historical movie house showing movies on a single screen. We love sitting in the balcony! We live close by and walk to catch a 1st run movie just about every month.

Support your single screen cinema
Jun. 2016 • Couples
I love single screen cinemas! There are so few of them. I'm glad the Lido was restored & reopened. The remodel/restoration was beautifully done. The Art Deco details reminds me of The Casino in Catalina Island. It's so charming I wish I lived closer, I'd enjoy movies here more often.

Fond memories!

Started going to this theater at age six in 1952 for the Saturday matinees for children. Admission was something like 10₵ and for that we got a full-length movie, a short and 4-6 cartoons. Occasionally a Hollywood, western movie would show up to entertain us for a bit. Craig was the ticket taker, usher and enforcer of good behavior and most of us thought he had the best job ever. The last time I saw a movie was with a date in probably 1966 just before going into the military. It was a wonderful place.

Here's a bit of trivia. Back in the day smoking was permitted but only in the balcony. My, have times changed!

Love this theatre! One of the few old, glamorous theaters left. On a recent trip to Newport Beach we had dinner and then stopped in at the Lido to see 'Sully'. Love the old Hollywood feel of this theater!

Beautiful theater

We went to see the theater itself not a movie-- it was beautiful and art deco style. I felt like I was in miami beach, but it was very cool to see in person. If you are going to the area I'd check it out.

Beautiful theater, terrible movies
Mar. 2015 • Couples
I live around the street and I look for any excuse to visit the theater. The best time of year is when they host screenings for the Newport Beach Film Festival (usually in April), when they show a variety of films in quick succession. Otherwise, whoever does their movies selection tends to choose lousy ones (subjectively speaking) and they tend to run for 6+ weeks each. That said, the theater itself is gorgeous; it wouldn't look out of place on Ocean Drive in Miami, with it's tropical Deco architecture and color scheme. They also serve fantastic food, including bon bons and wine.
