Operated by the non-profit Nevada Theatre Commission, it is the venue for live theatrical plays by most of the area’s production companies, including LeGacy Productions, Sierra Stages, Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra, Paul Emery Presents and others. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We attended a performance last night and it was our first visit since Covid. While the theatre was shut during the pandemic, the interior was refurbished. The old wooden seats were replaced with some from the Del Oro theater in Grass Valley. They are much more comfortable but with drink holders seem narrow. The star of the show is the glorious murals by artist Sarah Coleman and her team. While there were no performances going on, they could erect scaffolding and the walls are just indescribably beautiful now, celebrating the environment in Nevada County.

How amazing that we have this awesome historic theater. It’s absolutely beautiful inside & out. They have done some upgrades but it’s still got all the charm you would want. We actually scored one of the old doors & now it’s our head board. Love that we have a small piece of history.

Very cool old building with some great history. I’ve been here a few times for movies or plays. I always enjoy the place. Not a streamlined modern place but it has character! In the heart of historic downtown Nevada City.

The old Nevada Theater, in downtown Nevada City (Broad Street) is a beautiful, Victorian, elegant theater, like nothing else I've seen. Don't let the old surroundings fool you, though, the stage is totally modern. Great lighting, trap doors, huge stage, and a great sound system make the theater experience complete. I've enjoyed every play I've come here to watch. Make your evening complete by dining at one of many wonderful restaurants on Broad Street before the show. Enjoy!

Over the years I've seen many live performances here. Most recently, the musical Chicago, was performed. The theatre reminds me of a time when live performances were the only forms of entertainment in his area. Great music, performers, orchestra and community. Every seat in the house is a good seat.

The current production of "Company" is as good as anything you would see in any theater, anywhere, Our new seats are comfortable and the size of the theater is just perfect for Nevada City.
Full house attendance of about 300 makes for an exciting evening.
My wife & I attend every production and they just seem to be getting better and better.
Is it possible that we can keep these gifted people in our small town theater?..I hope so. !

This adorable little theater will transport you back in time to the gold mining era of this historic town. The building itself is in surprisingly good condition considering how old it is, and it's a fun/funky little spot to go watch an indie movie.

I'm going to see The Producers this evening (July 17, 2015) and wondering whether I should bring a jacket? I get cold in Air Conditioning. Several years ago we attended a production at Thanksgiving time and it was so cold in the theater that my husband got a blanket out of the car for the second act. Temperature seems inconsistent in the theatre -- but maybe it's been improved over time. Please advise today. Thanks.
