Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a nice, well done monument in the heart of Monterey's cannery district
This is a great place to stop and visit when you are in town. Reflect on the origins and the history of the area.
In December, they decorate the men with santa hats.

The Cannery Row Monument honours the many famous people who played a vital role in the evolution of Cannery Row. At the top of the rock-shaped monument is John Steinbeck, surrounded by eight other bronze figures - figures reminiscent of the days when Cannery Row was the bustling sardine canning district that exposed it to the lives of the people who filled it with literary inspiration. The four "boys" huddled together on the rock were modeled after four entrepreneurs who adopted the remains of the canning district and devoted themselves to its rebirth.

Nine individuals who had a part to play in Monterey's history and helped shaped the town into what we see today are depicted in this monument. There's John Steinbeck, the winner of the Nobel Prize for literature - he's the one highest on the mound, marine biologist Ed Ricketts, and several characters who worked in and around the canning factories, including some Chinese fishermen. But the best thing about the monument is its location - fronting the Pacific Ocean, the views are lovely.

An impressive monument, particularly as it includes elements of ‘just people’ - not only the ‘famous’.

A monument on the Bay - a nice place to look out over the Bay while honoring those hard workers who made Cannery Row what it once was - literally a row of canneries where sardines and other fish were canned for sale all over the world. The characters captured in the monument give you a sense of those people characterized by John Steinbeck in his book "Cannery Row".

This is a great spot for lunch. Ramp access to the base of the monument. Concrete bench seating with colourful garden surrounds. Restrooms in the adjacent plaza on level 2.

Take a pause and appreciate this phenomenal work of art sitting free to enjoy. Amazing that there is no charge to view this incredible sculpture that captures the many lifestyles that contributed to Cannery Row. So much history conveyed! Even more amazing that tourists weren’t taking advantage of this magnificent opportunity sitting right in front of them. Hubby and I found it close to impossible to walk away from this beautiful reminder of another era.

There's parking in the adjacent streets, metered, as well as a few blocks away for free, the latter also more easily available as it involves a few minutes' walking.
