Took the grand kids there, they learned some history and enjoyed looking and learning about the history. They always want to go there first before the Pier.

Formerly the Knight Maritime Museum, "MOM" is a poor successor. The Knight had great maritime artifacts that meshed perfectly with the Custom House Plaza. The current Stanton Center is merely a venue for rotating art exhibits.

I loved wandering in and out of the old Spanish Colonial adobe buildings learning about how the Spanish and Americans used the buildings over the years. Lots of history here!

I loved this museum, with its beautiful evocation of maritime history in the Monterey area. There is a fully restored lighthouse Fresnel beacon, the lenses imported from France at a time in history when such imports were rare beyond belief, that lighted the early sailors. There are also many artifacts that bring you into the moment, long past, of life... More
