Northwood, embellished with redwoods, turkey vultures sail above, nearby the Russian River gurgles its way twelve miles downstream where it unites with the pacific. A 'designer' course, Northwood is where I had my first golfing experience and it was a delightful, albeit a bit frustrating introduction to what all the buzz is about. Gaylord Schaap, who has run the pro... More

I think this is the prettiest golf course in Sonoma County. The redwoods are spectacular and the course is always in pristine condition. The 9 hole layout is quite a challenge...the redwoods provide quite an obstacle and the course design is extraordinary.

Only a 9 hole course, but you can play it twice if you want to go 18. Lots of redwood trees, very scenic. Restaurant has pretty good food - the milkshakes are really good, and I am told the pie is awesome.

This is a nicely laid out golf course among the redwoods partially along the Russion River. A truly picturesque setting - that can challenge the casual golfer (and even be fun for the newer golfer - which I am!) Also has a small driving range, pro shop, restaurant with full bar - close to wine country and the Pacific Coast.... More

We were in the area to spend a couple days and desired to play some golf. We are vacation-only golfers and this was a great choice for us. Not crazy expensive, easy to find and beautiful fairways amongst the redwoods. The pace was a little slow on a lovely afternoon, but we were able to relax and enjoy. The course... More

Nice resturant looking out at golf course. Regular menu with nightly specials. Breakfast all day. Many locals meet and eat here.

The golf club is really special on the North shore of the Russian River. Never got a chance to play but we visited their restaurant which was just mediocre. We had breakfast and there was nothing extraordinary that was server, but we enjoyed the scenery.

We discovered Northwoods Golf Club about 20 years ago when our friends were married. We did not play it back then, but we vowed we would be back. Our recent trip is our 5th time at Northwoods. The course was designed by Alister McKenzie, the designer of Augusta. It is laid out among the enormous redwoods and is a lot... More

My husband and I spent a couple nights in Monte Rio CA to celebrate our anniversary. We arrived late in the afternoon and wanted a late lunch. The only place open at that time was the Northwood Golf Club. Beggars can't be choosers so we decided to give it a try. Altho the golf course is right on the main... More

Have played here several times on two different trips. Playing among the tall trees is a kick. People are friendly. Greens are challenging. Not too long & very playable. The crew does a nice job keeping it in decent shape with the challenges of having a lot of shade and pine trees. I am a 10-15 handicapper who plays often... More
