The Taoist temple of Kwan Tai sits unassumingly on Albion street surrounded by other restored victorian buildings bearing mute testimony to the hundreds of Chinese immigrants who worked unheralded in the early days of California helping to make it into the powerhouse state that it...More

Well worth a visit. Lucky to have great grand daughter of initial Chinese residents telling the family story. We went as part of the Mendocino walking tour.

We walked into the temple and the granddaughter of the founder was there to speak to us. WOW. This is a humble place, but her discussions of growing up in Mendocino and the history of the Chinese in the area, however brief, was terrific.

We took the Mendocino Village walking tour (Kelley House Museum), and this was one of the stops. Very educational. Glad to have had the opportunity.

From the outside, the temple looks larger than it really is. I was ready to enter into one open room with the alter at the end hence the word "temple", but to my surprise it was only the alter itself. Well-maintained, though, with fresh fruits...More

We saw the Temple during the walking tour (purchased at Kelley House.) It wasn't open, but the walking tour gave a great overview and the windows allowed us to see inside.

Not sure what rating to put as we didn't get a chance to go inside. We were there on both Sat and Sunday but the temple was closed. Looks like it only opened on the weekend for a very limited time. We were there around...More
