I grew up on the central coast and didn't go to MDO until I was in college. I was missing out! Hiking, surfing, observing, picnicking, etc it's gorgeous and not touristy. MDO is Serene and peaceful while being enjoyable to all ages. Now I work in Los Osos and am so lucky to be so close to this state park.

This is one of my favorite places to watch the sunset. There are nice hiking trails throughout the park and it feels like a real get away when you're there. Parking can be challenging so come early for the sunset crowd.

Love to walk along the cliffs here at the end of the park. You can often see sea otters playing in the surf below the cliff, spectacular views, And gray whales out farther in the ocean.

Montana de Oro is the crown jewel of the Central Coast. Especially gorgeous in the spring with emerald hills covered in wildflowers. The scent of wild sage permeates the air. The sea throws out spectacular waves. Whales can be sighted from the bluffs. Their are tidepools to explore, and swimming in little Spooner's Cove, where dogs are welcome. (Not on... More

The Bluffs Trail is a flat, wonderful walk along the shore with beautiful rock formations. The day we were there was extremely windy and a little cold, but that didn't matter. It is a great hike for all ages. And there was a rainbow over Morro Bay.

One of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen. The hike is very short and easy. You first pass through a forest and then reach a hill that overlooks the ocean. Then its an easy few steps down to the ocean and the gorgeous rock formations. Very romantic and a great workout! Wear good hiking shoes because the rocks are... More

We were informed about the rock formations, in particular the so called pancake rocks. On our visit it was cold and windy. Not a nice day to visit the park. We drove all the way up (Pecho Valley Rd) into he park and parked the car close to Bluff Trail. Despite the weather we took nice pictures. The park is... More

We stayed here shortly before Thanksgiving. The campground is popular and fills up quickly. You really have to make reservations most of the year. The campground is secluded and does not have views on the ocean. Some sites offer little privacy but there are sites which offer shade and privacy. We had site 17. Good site for both tent and... This is a handicapped accessible, walk. I've reviewed before, but just wanted to remind visitors that a blowhole is located in the second cove past the first bench on Bluff Trail (main entrance). The spray was so high, it blew over the top of the observation area, over 30-40 feet in the air. It reminded me (on a lesser scale)... More

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night. Unfortunately, we really didn't have time to explore it the way I would have liked to. We did manage to make it to the cove, which is about a ten minute walk from where we camped. I believe it is called Spooner's Cove or maybe it's Schooner's Cove. Either way, it's... More
