In June 2024 stayed in Hollywood on the so called iconic Sunset Blvd to be precise and honestly I and my partner are beyond disgusted with the state of this place. Not only is the streets infested with litter, homeless and junkies. My partner nearly stood on a dead rat and human poop on the pee stained sidewalk amongst the trash that was everywhere. When we got go the walk of fame there were multiple occasions where my partner and I had to grab each other's attention to prevent one another from slipping over in vomit and pee. Whilst on the walk of fame we had vendors jumping in our faces every 20 seconds trying to sell us tours, cds and street food and they become abusive when you decline. We got to the pedestrian crossing to walk over to the Chinese Theatre when an old man walked in front of us with his pants hanging down to his knees and his butt showing. He seemed to be homeless and in a drug affected state. Around the back streets behind the Boulevard is infested with tents and homeless people and some are just laying on the ground twitching from what looks like overdose. This area is absolutely not family friendly. DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT BRING CHILDREN HERE. the only thing that's accurate in the tourism magazines is the tall palm trees. They are pretty tall and tower pretty high... but so are a lot of the people in Hollywood. As canabis is legal here. If you don't want your kids exposed to drug overdoes, crack , weed, human poo on the ground, vomit on the ground, abusive sales men, crackheads and homeless people who are in a pretty bad state. Stay far far far away from Hollywood. Don't worry the smell of the place will probably kill you before the people do. It smells rotten. I grew up in a small country town with no electricity and running water and still that was more clean and hygienic than Hollywood. I have seen gad station bathrooms cleaner than this area. Unless you are willing to fork up $$$$ to stay in Beverly Hills you will be disgusted. Venice Beach is more chill but stoner's and salesman everywhere who want your money. Don't do it. If you want disneyland and universal stay in Anaheim and travel in to see Hollywood.. its not glitz and glam. The closest thing you'll see to glitzy in Hollywood is broken glass or shiny points of syringes on the ground.

Please don't go to Hollywood and waste your hard earned money. We are so disappointed and disgusted that the government even allow people to come here as a holiday destination. We emailed them while we were there to inform them of how bad this is allowing this. It is filthy, stinks of human urine and there is human faeces on the streets. Homeless overrun everywhere and tents erected. The place is just such a disappointment. My husband is a big guy and he said we are NOT walking the streets of an evening here I do not feel safe. We even wanted to book flights to leave to come back home to the UK. Instead we hired a car for 4 days to get us 3 hour drives or more to get out of the area and still along the way we seen homelessness at its worst in a country that is so rich but looks worse than being a third world country. We were threatened on Hollywood Blvd, seen someone's bag get stolen, I nearly kicked a needle when walking along the street with sandals on. We saw men playing with their genitals, homeless routing in bins, sprawled in streets, shouting at holiday makers and people urinating in the street. If you still go at least you have been warned. I would suggest you go to somewhere else and change your holiday.
