Great trip, regret that I was mobility limited with a broken foot, adn time permited only go once in the evening. Beach, pier and surrounding shops easily accessible by train from LA Live area. made the trip possible.

Santa Monica was possibly our favourite place we visited in LA. It is just like it appears in films and television, and I was so excited to look at everything going on. We hired bikes (highly recommend) and cycled down to Venice beach, and it was a great way to take in the local scenery and cover a lot of... More

Visitors would find the beach here a very wide beach and there is a well known Santa Monica Pier with a small amusement area on it. The area and streets offer good views and it can be very hard to find parking and the pier itself is very buys and contested over summer. Its a pleasant experience and also its... More

We normally stop to eat at Bubba Gumps when in the area. There is a city owned paid parking area where you put money in a meter and then put the receipt inside your car on the dash. On the beach you will see a memorial re: men/women who have died in war since 9/11. This is set up and... More

Great atmospheres but extremely busy! I would try and go early to avoid disappointment, Great to see some of the famous sites, which would normally be on TV

So much to see and do! The culture is great, loads of happy people and a real mix of cultures. Lots of tourists but still enjoyable. Great shops and the pier is great.

It was really cool to see a place that I've seen on the big and small screen so many times. We didn't partake in any of the rides or games on the pier, but it was cool to watch. Then we just went and sat in the sand by the water for a while. I would recommend bringing a towel... More

We went here on a day tour out of Las Vegas to Hollywood. Quick 1 hour stop to see the Pacific Ocean. To cold to get it but so glad we got to see it.

Great beach, although the water was a little too cold for us, but the kids enjoyed running around and building sandcastles. Beautiful sunset!

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
