The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Venice
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went for my birthday and now know why people come to Vegas, what a disgusting nightmare of homeless people and being charged for everything. Even the hotel charged for parking on a $250.00 room! Not even complimentary coffee at the hilton! The homeless guy tried to set a lock on fire with gunpowder! Never again!

Venice Beach Walk is one of the best activities and spots in Los Angeles because it is one of the most vibrant and joyful places to hang out and even every day.

Over hyped place. Street vendors have pretty poor stuff, nothing 'unique' here! Really commertialised. Mist vendors selling same tacky tourist garb. Really can't see what's so great about it

Boardwalk was sketchy. Nothing scary, if you have been to Atlantic City; but not the place for young kids. Don’t make eye contact with the people handing out their CDs or the “pro-life” types waving around posters.

A must see when visiting LA. A cool funky beach with lots of shops and huge sandy beach. My family and I enjoyed very much, highly recommend.

It’s a crying shame that Venice has turned into a dumpster fire. It’s always been a bit sketchy at night, but now it’s a filth pile of untreated mental health issues and addiction. Fires, stabbings, shootings… Venice is ruined.

I recently took a walk down the boardwalk solo. It was during the day and I’m sure it’s very safe but for some reason I felt uncomfortable probably just me lots of honky-tonk shops, tattoos T-shirts, etc. there is muscle beach day which is kind of cool to see, and also paddle tennis that’s a real good players there I would not bring young children there or even go there at night you’re better off going to Santa Monica pier

When I came here in the 80's it was the best place i had ever seen. Cool, funky, crazy, everything I dreamed LA would be and more. By far tyhe best-people watching spot on earth I thought. I just went back this year. Its gone down the toilet, big time. There's homeless people all over, people with mental issues, it's dirty, it smells like weed everywhere....I was looking for a public bathroom, There's dirty beds and clothes in all the toilets where the bums have decided to stay! The city has totally lost control and I've heard its just getting worse everyday. Imagine those who have bought million dollar houses around there...I would sell everything as soon as I could. Don't waste your hard earned money in a hell hole like that. But Yeah, the beach is still beautiful.

I do not recommend for young children. The boardwalk is gross. Very dirty, lots of smoke shops and lots of small shops and vendors selling the oddest things. The beach is breathtaking but that's pretty much it. Lots of homeless people. They have nice basketball courts and and Venice beach has a nice workout space.

Sadly, the entire boardwalk had such a foul smell of urine, feces and trash that we could only walk for about 15 minutes until we had to leave. It is very different than how it was when we visited just 3 years ago. We have hope that the boardwalk can get cleaned up. But this time, we didn’t feel safe and could hardly breathe.
