The ambience and the bar are incredible. We were there for a birthday party and the atmosphere of both floors was truly excellent. Come early enough to hang out at the bar beforehand. The amount of specialty cocktails from the 1930s is especially impressive and are all very well made.
Because the night was slow (for us and the Escape Room staff) we ended up doing two rooms: THE ATTIC and RESURRECTION.
We do a lot of Escape Rooms in LA and overall the puzzles were clever and the production aesthetic was a 9/10 for both rooms. I think the low Escape Rate percentages are a marketing ploy and not based on anything legitimate. Each room, however, had small design flaws that made the experience a bit sus for the price, and for the last room, totally ruined the fun.
The Attic: Not as scary as it's advertised to be but very well done. We escaped the 60 minute room with 20 minutes to spare. However there is a button pushing puzzle that was jammed and we needed management to activate the solution for us.
Resurrection: This was the rough one. Once you move on from a really interesting first room, you come across a magnet puzzle that is so poorly designed it ruined the experience for everybody. The maze is made of PVC pipe which so thick that you cannot take your magnet over the PVC joints without losing the object you're trying to guide. Every. Single. Time.
There is also a lack of direction on which end to take the object and if the group before you doesn't solve the maze, the company just leaves the object in the pipes for your group to pick up where they left off. (Probably because it's too hard to reset...)
Ultimately we spent about 15 minutes on this maddeningly frustrating puzzle only to find that we took it to the wrong end and then had no hope of solving the room in the remaining time unless they skipped us forward and opened a locked cabinet, which they did. But considering that they had to do that for both rooms... feels a bit beta testy to me.
I'm fine if a puzzle outsmarts us but if we can't solve it because of a design flaw, well, that's a big problem.
Overall I'd recommend going for the bar and the vibe. You don't need to have a room reserved to hang out and it's a cool spot in the middle of Hollywood. Hopefully they get some testers in to workshop the puzzles and fix some easy errors.

We came across the Escape Hotel by chance and were curious. When we went in, we immediately reserved a table for the evening. We love horror films and scary stuff. Perfect for us, we thought. And it was. This great atmosphere in the lobby, this atmospheric lighting and the attention to detail. There is something to discover everywhere. The staff were dressed to match the theme. Everyone was super friendly and up for any fun. Our dinner was terrific. The food was delicious and the service was quick and courteous. The cocktails were also great and the decor of the food and drinks matched the theme. The napkins were pretty cool. During the meal, the lights flicker and spooky laughter or screams can be heard. Very entertaining. We didn't take part in the game itself, we were only here for dinner. But all the players came back with enormous enthusiasm. It wasn't cheap, but it was definitely worth it. It was a really cool evening.

Love this escape room - we did the Attic - and although we escaped with plenty of time left and no hints - it was still very challenging. But our group of 6 worked well together and had a blast. Wish it was even scarier.

My son and I greatly enjoyed the Escape Hotel. We did Daycare and stayed to do another, called Agent. It is important to choose the right room as they vary widely in difficulty. We enjoyed working in a team with strangers in both cases.

Our group did the “Cocaine” room. It was about a mobster drug dealer. It was slow to start and we were unsure how deep to look into things. Once we started getting the clues it moved quick and we got very excited. It was nice working in a small group of friends to come up with ideas. Everyone sees things a little differently. We picked this one due to medium difficultly and being adventurous. They have plenty of rooms to chose from. We will be back!

First escape room I've done in LA and so happy we chose Escape Hotel and the Circus Room. Its a bit pricier then most rooms I've done in New York or England but the quality of the decor and tech is really, really good. Because of its location I was worried it felt maybe a bit more touristy then other room venues BUT once inside it was just as intimate as what I am used to and also the staff were lovely. There were 5 of us who had all done rooms before and we all agreed it was a great puzzle. Will probably try and go back and visit before we leave LA and hopefully get another escapees stamp in the cool passport that they give you. Thanks to Alex and David for the best hour of our day!

After a disappointing day in Hollywood (A filthy place full of beggars) we found the Escape Hotel - as a family we love the challenge of an Escape room and we did Circus - This challenges the mind and creeps you out (just a little) we escaped!!!! This place saved the day for us - would love to try the other rooms but alas we run out of time here

Room sharing is really annoying as escape games should have team work. This place allow foreigners to play in the same room.

Hello Michael,
We would like to thank you for showing interest in Escape Hotel. We are sad to hear that you didn't enjoy your experience with us, we completely understand and respect your reasoning for it. However, our business module is built on taking reservations, accepting walk-ins and combining more than one team together in one room as long as it doesn't exceed the maximum capacity of a room. The only way to play a room alone is by getting lucky where the time slot you book does not get booked by other customers or booking out the whole room. We wouldn't be efficient and wouldn't be able to operate our business any other way.
We still appreciate your business and honesty to us so we would like to offer you a free game of your choice at your convenience that is COMPLETELY PRIVATE for your group. To do so just email us at beso@escapehotelhollywood.com and we would be happy to arrange that for you.
Sincerely

Ive done over 40 escape rooms. The environment was great! The decor was nice, but the rooms are a little poorly managed, and left us all feeling confused and turned around at times.
We "Escaped" and didn't even realize it? We had the mafia/cocaine themed room (I apologize for forgetting the name). We had solved all the puzzles, opened the last box, and some audio started playing over the speakers. In which, we couldn't understand clearly what was being said.
After searching for some sort of clue or puzzle over the next 3-5 minutes, I had to use the intercom to contact our "game master" in which she laughed and said OH yeah you escaped, congrats.
So great atmosphere, but could most definately be better managed. There's absolutrly no excuse to leave a group wandering meaninglessly in a room.

Hello,
Thank you so much for your honest opinion and for showing interest in Escape Hotel. I would like to apologize on the behalf of my team that you and your group were left wondering in the room after completing it. I would also like to invite you to come in and play any game you like, I recommend the cursed crypt because it is my favorite!
If that works for you please send us an email at beso@escapehotelhollywood.com and we will be happy to arrange that for you.

6 of us, was waiting for WOW experience. Everything goes well until you pay. From that moment they wont care about you anymore. First advice, contact us after 20 min, so when one part of the equipment got broken we lost 15 min trying to still do something which was impossible, Nobody is watching to assist you. Staff changed and we could not even make a complaint. We have asked for extra 5 min to finish the game as it was not our fault that their equipment is not in a good condition, they said sorry, next people are waiting. Lack of interest and professionalism. Room was not interesting at all. Really poor level of the game. I do not reccommend to anyone that place.

Good Afternoon,
We are deeply disheartened to hear your experience here was not what you expected, or as you explain, below any expectation. Our highest priority is customer service, so we are alarmed to hear these concerning comments from you. First and foremost, we always have people watching our games. Our game masters are here specifically to offer help during the game, but also watch the game to ensure the safety of our guests. As we have 9 games, sometimes we will have multiple games running at the same time. If two groups call in for help or a hint or have any issue in the room, it may take some time before you hear from our game masters as they are helping out other guests. The game masters will only contact you if there is something wrong with the room, or if there is a safety concern. Otherwise, they rely on you to communicate with them. Even with a staff change, there is a manager on site at all times to overlook any operations happening. Our staff and management would never turn a blind eye to any compliment or complaint, as we take both very seriously. It's unfortunate that you didn't feel you couldn't approach one of our team members to explain your problems, as we could've resolved the issue right away. As for adding any additional time, this is a rule for any room, as we can not jeopardize other games.
We are sad to lose a customer due to incorrect communication, but we hope that you will reconsider us in the future.

Is there an age limit and can we take more people in the room than the suggestion?
Written 4 March 2019
Hi Rachelle, there is a minimum age requirement. Children may play if accompanied by a parent. Children 14+ may play alone but must have a parent or guardian sign their waiver form. Anyone above 18 years of age can sign for themselves. Hope this answered you're question!
