We "attempted" to visit the friday after thanksgiving. Us and a million other people. There is good parking near the Greek Theater but no parking lots near the observatory. There is only on street parking spaces that cost $10 per hour. Spaces are short. Most cars were parked bumper to bumper so getting out would be impossible. We drove the entire area and found no parking anywhere. It should also be noted that we are senior citizens with some impairments that would prevent us from making a long hike up a steep path to the observatory and back down. I did not find this noted in anything I researched about this trip. It should be noted that unless a spot is open up the hill at the observatory itself, its very likely an older person will not be able to make the hike. We were never able to view or enjoy the observatory itself. Simply too many people, too many cars, expensive parking and not so clean port o potties available. Becoming all too familiar in Los Angeles.

Lovely views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign
Oct. 2021 • Family
We visited twice in a period of several days. On our first visit, filming was taking place at the observatory. We parked along the road and walk about 1/2 mile to the top. There was a lot of security. We had to turn around at the restrooms. I guess it was Adele filming a television special. The next time we drove up in the morning, we were able to park free at the very top. It is a lovely view of downtown LA and surrounding area. The Hollywood sign is in full view. The observatory is closed but the outdoor view is worth a visit.

A must see in LA
Oct. 2021
First- plan your visit- they have restricted hours. I almost missed out because they are closed multiple days.
Even if it isn't a clear night, they can still see some things through the telescope. But they have great information inside. We arranged a private tour, and this was great. Overall, this was the best part of our trip. Seeing Saturn, moons of Jupiter, etc.

Worth every Moment!
Sep. 2021
This is a great spot for tourists and locals alike. We planned our event for mid-afternoon. Took the suggestion of taking the bus to avoid fighting for parking - Great decision! There is so much to see, especially if you enjoy reading all the information in the buildings (plan for a few hours on that part at least). It is just as beautiful during the day, as it is at night - you don't want to miss either. We even "happened" to be there when the space station flew over, which was exciting to see. The guides throughout the property are very helpful and you can tell they care about their work. The line for the evening rooftop telescope gets pretty long, so aim to be there as soon as it opens in the evening. One trip was not enough. A good place to return to.

Stars in the city
Aug. 2021
A must see in LA! We visited after sundown for night view LA and stars in the sky.

The observatory has several exhibits on astronomy. You could also see the original telescope (though we did not have enough time).

We are also lucky to observe the Tesla coil demonstration.

Parking is difficult, recommend car pooling or hiking up

Great views
Sep. 2021 • Family
We came here on a Saturday because that was one of the days that the planetarium is open. There were a lot of people there so we had to park far away and walk up a hill. The parking costs $10. There were a lot of great views of the city. There were a lot of great things to see and read about inside and the admission was free.
