Depending upon when you visit you will either see marshland or birds. If you can find a recommendation on when the cranes are likely to be in the area try to visit at that time.

Had heard a great deal about this reserve. Found the visit just okay. If I was go go back would plan visit at sunrise or sunset. Not much to see without binoculars. Still a beautiful area hence the average rating. We, along with the others,...More

There are many birds to be seen but need high powered lens to get best views We were fortunate to see great horned owl right by the parking up in a tree

We made it a family outing and were not disappointed. We saw hundreds fly in at sunset. What an adventure and it's certainly not just for young people. It's an extraordinary display.!!!

I don't know if I picked the wrong time of the year (February 4) to visit this place, but it was hugely disappointing. All I could see were tiny birds that I could not even properly identify - they looked nothing like the photos of...More

Even if you are not a birdwatcher, the spectacle of hundreds of cranes in the reserve's fields is wonderful to behold. I try to go to the reserve every year. I have already been in late December and this year in late January. Woodbridge Road...More

We were in town to wine taste but needed a break. Heard that the Sandhill Cranes were in the area. Must go at sunset exactly. Here they come in flocks, many flying overhead but others landing in the fields in front of you. The cry...More

We don't wait for the Crane Festival. From November through February watching the cranes come home any evening is awe-enspiring.

We traveled from the Bay Area to view the fabulous Sand Hill Cranes for their namesake festival in Lodi last weekend. Our nature bus tour drove us out to Isenberg Crane Reserve. They say the birds prefer fewer vehicles so the bus is less stressful...More

Yes, March would be a good time to visit--but I would not go later than that, as the cranes will start leaving. The best times are December through February. But I do think you can still see the cranes this month.

From many of the other comments, it looks like late October might be the best time to see the migrating adults. By February, we could see none of the adults - only chicks.
