Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not only does Scripps Institute of Oceanography do outstanding scientific research, their main campus in La Jolla faces the Pacific Ocean. Thus, from the 2nd floor cafe that's open to the public, you have a sweeping view of the Pacific. Additional food for thought can be obtained from their sporadic public lectures. Parking on campus or nearby streets is challenging, but worth it.

Friends told us about this place - and where to find some parking! It is an absolute find of a short hike. You go through the native grass/bushes for a bit and then pop out to the edge of the cliffs north of La Jolla. Amazing and spectacular views both up and down the coastline. Since it is not far south of the Gliderport, you often see the pilots come over as well. Some amazing houses and mansions are in view! The trail is a circle so you don't really have to repeat anything either. Not to be missed!

The grounds of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography are a microcosm of California coastal landscapes with many species of flowering plants (including roses) and a variety of succulents. The views from the bluff are spectacular. There is no parking nearby, so park on the street and walk down. They have a lovely canteen where you can lunch and look over the ocean.

This is a must-do little hike! Park on the street, then walk through the gate. The dirt path takes you through flora and fauna and then right up to the cliffs overlooking the Pacific. Bring Water!! This hike is suitable for everyone!

I have taken many grandchildren here and they all love it. If you let them lead you, you will see things you might not have ever noticed with your adult eyes. A fun one or two hour adventure and interactive displays are fun for kids as well.

If you are looking for a place to watch sunset in La Jolla, look no further than the beach in front of Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Absolutely stunning!

If you only do one thing in San Diego this should be it. here you will see first hand some of the most amazing sea creatures. You will also learn / be reminded how we as humans are having a direct impact on the environment. The displays are excellent. the touch ponds are fun. There is also a 'fun park' where you can play with water. Outside is a food vendor who does not bleed you dry for food (truely amazing)

No parking near entrance and I recommend parking on street before you turn toward entrance. It's a short simple easy to walk loop. Beautiful views and worth it.

The nature reserve is called "the Bluff" and site several hundred feet above the beach (no beach access - which I found to be a good thing); there is a half-mile loop walking trail, and the westernmost part of the trail goes right along the edge of the bluff with wonderful views down at the surf, views of downtown La Jolla to the south, and there are Mexican islands visible to the southwest on a clear day. The reserve belongs to the Scripps Institute and so UC San Diego ecology classes use the site to study soil composition and native plant life. Classes may go into the plants but non-UCSD-staff visitors must stay on the trail, which is very even and stroller-friendly.
When we were there on a nice, breezy March afternoon, there were a dozen para-sailers flying their colored contraptions out of the nearby Torrey Pines Gliderport out over the ocean, down the coast, and then back up to the Glideport within just a few yards of the bluff - spectacular!
Not many people find this place - the only parking is street parking if it's available on La Jolla Farms Rd in front of people's houses or to park at UCSD and cross N. Torrey Pines Rd. It was quiet and peaceful and beautiful. Find it on Street View on your online map at the end of Whitecliff Dr. before trying it in the car. On-foot it's no problem finding it.
