Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

St.James Episcopal Church is a welcoming a vibrant church. The preaching makes you think, the music inspires you and the people are happy to see you. They have a wonderful art gallery, too, with changing shows.

In the center of La Jolla you can find a beautiful period church with AMAZING stained-glass windows and a rich history. Better yet, for those of the Episcopal persuasion (or anyone who is feeling like a bit of a spiritual seeker that day) who feel like a Sunday visit, you will likely have the benefit of hearing the wise words of the amazing Rev. Eleanor Ellsworth. Enjoy!

St James is a wonderful faith community with great outreach programs to reach out to serve needs in the community: helping Vida Hoven orphanage in Tijuana; helping a sister parish in North Park; offering assistance to Military Moms Outreach; food bank support; feeding the homeless in Ocean Beach and throughout the community; and fundraising to support grant applicants who want to achieve their own missions.

St James also celebrates the joy of faith, community and Spirit through music in many forms: voice, organ, stringed instruments, compline, and taize.

And St James offers wonderful opportunities for edification and education as well. With guest speakers and adult forums on topics such as interfaith dialogue; how to promote civil discourse in our communities today; Studying Scripture: Hebrew Scripture + Christian Scriptures; and more.

Come join St James in any of its many celebrations of faith alive in community.

After three years ar St James, I feel so Very welcomed and so generously received.

St James holds weekly forum series for adult education topics such as: civil discourse in an often uncivil world; St Teresa of Avila: mystic and prayer reformer; forma of prayer and our monastic tradition; and more. I have so loved the fact that St James offers educational opportunities and that the community members desire the topics and indeed they attend. It is both encouraging and enriching.

St James also has an incredible array of musical offerings, both with events by members of the St James choir and also by invited musical groups such as chamber music ensembles, singing groups, and baroque groups. Our choral director also coordinates wonderful monthly Compline, Evensong, and Taize events. All offer varying degrees of music, tradition, shares singing, or chorale singing.

Father Mark and Mother Rebecca are warmhearted, fun, dedicated leaders of our church. They have families, they live committed lives rooted in prayerful focus. They guide us, listen to us, laugh with us, and pray with us.

Come meet our community at St James... love is spoken here.

walked past just as services were ending but heard wonderful organ tones and saw congenial congregation leaving. The church bells pealing sounded great and felt very European.

St James by the Sea is a welcoming community and beautiful historical church in the heart of La Jolla. It is also affiliated with The Bishop’s School and as such, the seniors are blessed with their Baccalaureate service at St James with the Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori.

The community of parishioners at St. James is really down-to-earth and reaches out in simple but really meaningful ways: introducing themselves at church in the morning; including newcomers into conversations at coffee after the service; inviting newcomers to participate in outreach and various volunteer activities; welcoming newcomers as valued faces whether at adult education forums or weekly services.

I know because I have been welcomed as a newcomer and I can't be any happier than knowing that I now feel as a member of the community. Now I reach out to others I see as newcomers. We are all welcome at the table. St James makes that real, and that's what Christ calls us to do.

Concerts in this La Jolla venue are a delight. The church with excellent acoustics provides a calm, serene setting. Usually street parking is available in the evenings on adjacent streets. There is also an adjacent gift shop that's open during the day.
