The Cave Store offers a variety of merchandise including handmade jewelry, towels, snorkel gear, postcards, magnets, shells, and bottled drinks and ice cream. The most exciting part of the Cave Store, however, is the 145 step tunnel that leads to the Sunny Jim Sea Cave. Although there are rarely any sea lions or seals in the cave, the view is spectacular and it is a great adventure, particularly for kids. Summer months (May through September) we offer snorkel gear rentals. $20 for 2 hours for the mask, snorkel, and fins. $10 for 2 hours for just the mask and snorkel or just the fins. We will hold onto an ID as a deposit. Unfortunately, no wet suits or life jackets are available.

$5 is a far price for the attraction. The steps are steep with low head clearance. The visit was quick but glad we stopped. We went first thing on a Saturday morning, it was not incredibly busy which worked well for the limited quarters.

Long walk down lots of stairs to see very little!!! It was cool but won't do it again. Not good for anyone with walking problems.

Even with her cane, and low vision, we slowly made it down the stairs to the bottom. Shoes with good traction is a MUST, as the younger man passing us slipped on the way down...slippery. It's $5, but we had never been before so it was worth it. We could hear the waves crashing from way up above. There is... More

Reviewed some sites seeking things to see in La Jolla, and The Cave Store was listed. Shown a picture, and how you can see the ocean from this area. Called the number and told it would take 15 minutes to see the cave, and cost would be $5. Small store with a small entrance to the cave, told that stairs... More

I went to San Diego for my sister's bachelorette party and we ended up recieving free tickets to the cave store from our kayaking guide because the waves were too rough, so we were unable to kayak in the caves like planned. The tunnel and store are historical landmarks, and were both very fun to wonder through. If you want... More

This is one of those things you have to do. It is the only way to get to a sea cave that doesn't involve swimming or a kayak. While a lot of reviews make the steps down to the cave sound scary it really wasn't that bad. My four year old didn't have any trouble, although i would not have... More

A quaint little gift shop right on the La Jolla coast. For a small admission fee, you can climb the stairs down into "Sunny Jim's Cave." You cannot access the beach through the cave. You can, though, imagine being a pirate or ocean explorer as you watch the ocean through an the opening in the rocks. I highly recommend!

Get a different look at the cave from inside of it. It's a sketchy flight of stairs through an old tunnel, which is part of the experience in and of itself. Totally worth the $5 entry fee. Very cool to be underneath and inside of the cave. Just watch your head. The ceiling is low in some parts. Kids love... More

The highlight of my trip to La Jolla was going to The Cave Store and meeting Orson. Orson is the cat that hangs around the store, and she made my day amazing. She may be deaf, but she is still great company to anyone. Who doesn't love to be greeted when you walk in the door by a friendly cat?... More

Overpriced souvenirs, not worth the ticket to the cave. This is a tourist trap. There is so much more to see and do in this area, I recommend skipping this place.
