This is a pretty good place to go shopping if you are in the area or visiting Karuizawa as its one of the biggest outlet malls in Japan. The plaza is HUGE and there are plenty of shops, all major brands from Bathing Ape, Raphle Lauren, Adidas, Nike to Le Creuset and so on) but its is often full of people (even through October 2020 before Japan spiked again with Covid it was pretty full with Japanese, usually it's full of Chinese people coming to shop). There are some excellent bargains to be found but I would suggest getting there early in the day, checking out the map in advance and having a good idea what shops you want to really shop at first as it's easy to get lost in the enormity of the place.

Karuizawa is a very pretty mountain resort town worth a visit. Easy access to the Shiraito Falls and Harunire Terrace by bus from Ginza street. A few Catholic Churches are well a visit. The Prince Shopping Plaza by the train station is just an added feature and offers a beautiful, vast garden/lawn with playground. The shops along Karuizawa Ginza are cute and with enough variety. One or better yet, two nights is ample time to enjoy the sights and restaurants.

Mall got everything. Stayed 4 nites to slowly enjoy every sale in the shop. Food from budget until nice restaurants are available. Family mart and 7eleven are there along with few local delicatessen. Came here every year to ski and shop so perfect for kids and the parents !

I went there for the Black Friday sale. I bought some snow boots and autumn/winter pants, the parking was free, and it wasn't cold, so it was fun. Wow, it's so big. Isn't Karuizawa great for enjoying it in winter? I especially like the wide selection of sports goods.

We went to Tokyo from 18-26 Dec 2018. Only in tokyo using suica cards. No plan to buy JR pass or go outside Tokyo. But the kids really want to play in the snow. Those date, there was no snow in Tokyo city. So we browse and found this pretty place.
We bought shinkansen reserved ticket 2-way only, leave Tokyo at 9am, back from Karuizawa at 3pm. Spend Y10,000/ ticket. A little bit too much for our expenses...but its all worth it. Why?
1) The kids are delighted to ride on the fastest train ever
2) Its only 1 hour away. You know that the Japanese are so silent and well mannered, esp inside the train. Its quite hard to keep our kids that way for more than an hour. So this is very suitable for us.
3) When we reached the station, we saw the skii slope but its too far away. So we walked through the karuizawa prince shopping mall and it was a heaven....all outlet with branded stuff, there are cute dogs on a stroller everywhere, dog cafe and dog playpark, bery big park for the kids to running around.
4) We checked how to get near the snow. And there is shuttle bus all around the area...from the train station, to the mall, and to the hotels. Crossing fingers, we jump into the nearest bus. There were lots of kids in skii suit on that bus. Then we blindly stop at the 1st bus stop - karuizawa prince hotel east - following all the kids and adults in skii outfit. Yes we found the skii slope where the people line up to go up to the mountain. The kids were more than happy to play on the very small snow outside of the skii area.
5) we didn't stop here. There must be something more exciting in this place. And....we found the snowman park and skii school class for kids 2 mins walk from the chair lift area. We pay Y1,300/ person to get into the park, including rent a tube to go down the slope. And we can go up to the snowy mountain, which fully equipped with many kids of snow tools and snow toys. We can play all day long until its close around 4.30 pm.
The kids were VERY VERY happy. They forgot to eat or drink. They just play and play in the snow. But or ticket at 3pm force us to stop playing in the mountain, go back to the mall and had lunch there.
It was far more than we expected and we are very happy. The Y10,000 was all so worth it. FYI, the outlet are tremendously huge, but we only got in to lego store hahahha...what do you expect when you are travelling with kids. Should consider spend 1 or 2 night in this pretty place.

Was on a business trip and made a last minute decision to come here based on recommendations from a local colleague. It is only an hour away via the bullet train from Tokyo station and located next to the Karuizawa station.
The shopping here is just divine! Weather is nice and cool, about 4degrees lower than Tokyo city. We bought bags, shoes and clothes from Chloe, Cole Haan, Kate Spade, Bathing Ape and Adidas. Prices were about 30% to 40% off the usual from Singapore.
Lunch is also easy, there's a food court and several cafes. We had ours at the ramen shop. We stopped by the souvenir shops to get several snacks and these are things you may not find easily in Tokyo city as they are produce of Karuizawa.
We had limited time as we needed to get back to catch our flight, otherwise we figure a full day there from 10am to 7pm would be sufficient to cover all stores. It's good to be early, as the crowds (mostly locals) start coming in at about lunch time. We were there on a Friday so that could be a reason for more people.
For tourists, do stop by the information centre to collect a sheet of discount coupons before you commence your shopping spree.
My advice is to plan and buy the bullet train tickets in advance as we bought it only a day before and the reserved seats were almost all taken up. We had to upgrade in order to get seats so we paid an additional about JPY2000. I read that tourists can purchase the Tokyo Wide Pass at a flat JPY10000 for unlimited 3 days ride. Thats worth it so do check it out on the JR website.
We left our luggages at Tokyo Station coin lockers and took the 844am train to Karuizawa, reaching there just as the shops open so thats a good train to catch. We left on the 330pm train and made it back with half an hour to spare for our 530pm express train to the airport.
Will definitely be back here for my next visit if time permits!

The Karuizawa Prince Shopping mall is one of the best outlet mall that I had visited. Pretty good outlets variety with loads of popular and designer brands, outdoor goods, trendy items and sportswear (Adidas, Nike). Spent around 2-3 hours here browsing and shopping. There is also a footcourt in the mall. This outlet mall is definitely recommended if you are looking for a bargain. Just an hour away from Tokyo by the Shinkansen, it is convenient and easy to get to. This mall is situated just next to Karuizawa Station. Bring an empty bag, credit card and your passport (tax free) :)

I've been to many outlet mall in Japan and all of them disappointed me except this one. It's located right next to Karuizawa station. The brand that they have. Quality and price of things they sell is very good.
There is also ski garden next but I didn't go there.

This place is big and offers great shopping experience at discounted price ! Our family was there in December and the place was packed. We wished we had more time and the temperature was not so cold. Brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Lacoste, Gucci, Coach, Tory Burch, Ferragamo, Levi, Disney and sports brands like Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, etc can be found there. The food court was great with many choices. It was easy to walk around with a map although we did not manage to finish within a day. The place is located next to a station, easily accessible.

I am wondering whether the price for the big brands items are competitive with the outlets in Europe? Especially the high-end fashion brands such as Gucci and Jimmy choo ...
Written 14 September 2018
Price will not be significantly lower than Europe. But they will have some different selection / styles that are different than other places.

Hi, does anyone know what's the best way to get to Karuizawa from Tokyo? Can one take a bullet train?
Many thanks!
Written 2 November 2016
Exactly. The bullet train is the fastest. Do not and i repeat do not get those 1 trip ticket as they cost a bomb. I think most reviewers here has given you an approximate cost.
You might want to get a 3 day tokyo pass for Yen 10,000. this way you would get to visit other places as well. You can easily get that pass at the Tokyo JR station Pass office. Just ask around and the staff would be more than happy to lead you to the right office. You cant just get it from all offices. Once you have purchased the 3 day tokyo pass, you can just ask them reserve a seating for you for the trips.
Easy.
