Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited Wat Leu, Sihanoukville's "Upper Temple" while on a Woody's day tour. We were so glad we visited using an off-road vehicle.
We were on a cruise that docked in Sihanoukville for the day, and the rest of the cruise ship guests who had booked an over-priced low-value day tour were in large busses. Dozens of the guests were looked on in envy at our small convoy of off-road vehicles as we were able to navigate in and around the attraction and see this in a way they could not.
TIP: Be sure to bring both Kleenex and hand sanitizer as the restroom facilities do not provide tissue or soap.
See from an off-road vehicle, visit, then get back on and explore the rest of Cambodia.

Its very pretty , you will see the young monks walking around as well. Get a tuk tuk or car well worth the drive . Great view of the water and area. The temple grounds are nice with the statues and monkeys and dogs running around

Wat Leu Temple value to visit for two reasons. First is fantastic view over the city, sea and islands. Second one is, Temple alone is nice complex of buildings. Unfortunately main building was closed when I visited temple. Be aware about dogs. There were many angry dogs around. Perhaps about dogs I have seen only one monkey. Tuktuk drive was about half an hour. But it was valued.

We went as a booked Excursion from the Marella Discovery, part of the TUI fleet.
The visit to this Temple was part of the excursion around Sihanoukville to see the highlights of the town.
This Temple had many monkeys running around it and the Guide warned people not to smile (showing teeth to a monkey is seen by them as being aggressive and they might attack you + we were warned not to get any food or drink out as there saw these things as fair game to steal.)
There were many young children there with their mothers begging and the main Temple was closed and looked like it had been closed for a while.
The town of Sihanoukville is one massive building site at present and is not really tourist friendly.
We were on a Tuk Tuk that was unroadworthy and the driver had his phone in front of his steering wheel watching a Kung Ku film as he drove us on the trip.
We came off the Tuk with blue paint all over us because we had had to hold on to the sides of the Tuk for dear like.
I would not recommend going on a Tuk Tuk with Tui because they obviously do not know anything about duty of care because when we complained there answer was
"That's what a Tuk Tuk is like in Cambodia."
Well I saw plenty of very safe looking Turks driving round and would suggest travellers who wish to see the town and its Temples go and find one themselves because it's cheaper and safer than going with Tui.
I would think that in maybe ten years time when all the new buildings have been built and new infrastructure has been put in place then it might be worth revisiting to see if they have turned their attention to Tourism as a serious money earner for its people because at present all Labour/ work is geared to building multi storey flats and plush hotels.
My advice is visit some other part of Cambodia.

It takes a taxi ride to get up the hill to this temple. It is a striking temple and the surrounding structures and mausoleums are impressive. One aspect that detracted from the visit -- the poor people begging on the many steps of the temple, including with their infant children in their arms.

The temple is located on top of a small hill. Once you find the way up you will have a nice view over the Sihanoukville area. The temple itself is also very nice! When we went to visit it we were all alone and had some peace from the crowded streets near the beaches.

Lovely temple. Children begging but not demanding. We gave some money to 2 mothers who looked like they needed it. Saw monks getting ready for second and final meal of the day

How much was the tuk tuk and what monitary did you use to pay them. Thank you.

We were on a cruise ship excursion but tuk tuks are cheap—under $5—and everything here is paid in USD cash. Bring clean bills and small denominations. Cost would depend on starting point and whether you want them to wait while you visit, which is a good idea as it would be hard to get a tuk tuk at the temple as it’s a bit away from town.

Waren die Affen unfreundlich ? Ich teile als Gast gerne meine Früchte mit freundlichen Affen. Es klingt komisch, aber bei Hindu Tempeln sind Affen häufig aggresiv, bei budhistischen habe ich immer Spaß. Das liegt sicher nicht an der Religion, eher wie Menschen mit anderen Lebewesen umgehen und komunizieren. Wenn ich das nächste mal im Dezember in SNV bin bringe ich den Affen mal eine ganze Melone mit, das wollte ich schon immer mal sehen wie die damit zurechtkommen (-;

How do we get there using public transport? Should we pay in riel or dollars and what charge to go to Wat Leu and return from the dock/ port. I will be arriving by cruise ship for a day visit and hope to visit Wat Leu.
Written 26 October 2015
No public transport.I recommend you to use tuktuk or moto. You can pay in dollars or riel. All accepted USA dollars it is like official currency in Cambodia. But you need to negotiated before driving. Offer what is acceptable for you.Drive is about half an hour in one direction.Need negotiate to go there and back. Around temple no moto or tuktuk. I hope this will help you. Visit Temple and you not regret.
Best regards

Bonjour!
Moi et ma cousine préparons un voyage et nous aimerions visiter ce temple. Pourriez-vous nous dire si la visite coute de l'argent ou non? Si oui environ combien.
Merci a vous!
