- Sihakpiliny LCambodia1 contributionAmazing place! It's really great here. And I come here pretty often, The beaches are nice and the locals are really helpful, there are restaurants, cafe and ,any other nice places to hangout if you're just here for the view. you can do many activities like fishing, Sun bathing, Swimming and you can rent a boat for just about 50$ and you can visit the other islands too! I highly recommend. You should visit here for your next trip!Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 8 October 2023
- I ZBrussels, Belgium91 contributionsIf you are traveling, just skip Sihanoukville entirely...If you absolutely need to spend a night in Sihanoukville due to ferry/plane schedule constraints, since, other than that, losing your time here isn't worth it at all, then opt for a stay in Otres beach area. There is a lot of plastic on the sand, the waters are warm and clean though and one can catch a wonderful sunset. Unfortunately, the chinese invasion through property investment is so overwhelming everywhere in the area... 😶Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 2 March 2024
- Caroline K10 contributionsNice beach at Otres 2Beautiful white sandy beach for family. Not deep, not dangerous for kids. Warm and quiet. But a little dirty. There are not enough trashes or people don’t know how to use it… Each time, I used to clean the beach before enjoying with kids.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 August 2024

The beach restaurants were all bulldozed 10 days before we arrived. Not sure what they were thinking especially doing this during the Chinese New Year holiday. In any case we tried to salvage the experience as best we can. The main downside was that all the beach restaurants and bars were destroyed in one swoop. So that mean you maybe had 4 options for restaurants. Luckily our hotel at White Boutique Hotel still managed their beachfront so you just need to cross a the dug up road and you could still enjoy a quaint, white sand, beautiful sunset beach.
On the plus side this meant almost no people and you could score a jet ski rental fairly cheap. Otherwise you probably want to wait 6 months before considering this beach which sounds like will turn into a park area.

To anyone who remembers what the beach area used to be like... It isn't there anymore. The bartender in Otres village said the same people who are building the new casino bought up the entire beach and proceeded to tear down everything that was nice about Otres beach. No bars, no restaurants, no watching the sunset from beach chairs while stoned. Currently, it's difficult to even cross the road to get to the beach. Everything good about Sihanouk gone in one fell swoop.

Our experience straight from the airport told us all was not good. The roads if you call them that were horrible no pavement at all. We arrived at Ottes 2 and could not believe how they have wrecked a once beautiful spot. Half finished roads and buildings no restaurants on the beach no chairs on the beach the list goes on.Our accomadation was Cambodian owned and they had just let it run down the pool was not even good to swim in (When we booked this in May 2019 all reviews gave it a good place to stay) We had paid for 3 nights but walked out of there 3 hrs later. We stayed across the road at another resort where at least we could swim in the pool and eat a meal there. We arranged to go out to Koh Rong earlier. When we got dropped off at sihanoukville to catch the ferry we had to carry out bags from the top off the street to the terminal there was a excavator loading a truck and you had to basically walk under it whilst it was loading the road leading down was well very much a construction zone.
If looking at booking in these areas read the reviews that are under terrible as will get the truth.
Overall This is not the Cambodians fault as they have no say in this and we feel sorry for them.
Go to the islands but the rest of that coastline give it a big miss.

It is safe to say that Sihanoukville is not what we imagined. We arrived at the airport at 7pm and had a transfer arranged to our hotel. During the 30 minute drive we experienced what some would say, a traumatic experience. The roads were extremely unsafe (we saw a horrible accident) due to the amount of construction taking place. Our first impression was that it felt like a ghost town. It felt eerie, lonely and dangerous.
Once we arrived at our hotel (Sahaa Beach Resort) we decided to go for a walk to find somewhere to eat. The streets were deserted, full of rubbish and we had stray dogs following us around in the dark. As two 20 something year old female travellers, we felt outrageously unsafe.
We were meant to stay in Sihanoukville for 3 nights but we fled to a hostel on Koh Rong early. I highly recommend you do not come here. It is polluted, dangerous and all of the beautiful Cambodian culture has been destroyed.

Otres beach resort is a part of one big building site called sihanoukville. It was one notch above been homeless. Wild dogs barking all night roaming the dirt track they call a road. Couldn't wait for daylight to leave went straight to sihanoukville airport , left Cambodia never to return. Don't go, not a holiday more of an indurance.

I still hear myself thinking “it can’t be that bad” when we decided to stay for one night in Sihanoukville/Otres beach.
Boy.. was I wrong. It’s even worse than I could have ever imagined. Garbage everywhere, construction everywhere and cranes.... I stopped counting after 50, knowing the amount would have probably over double of that.
The entire place gives you the feeling a war has been going on. Words are hard to find to give a description.
Avoid this place at all cost. Don’t even consider it!!

Came here 2years ago beautiful lively place plenty of bars and places to eat.
ALL GONE every thing was bulldozed 2daysbefore we came.
All those poor people who worked there are now without work.
It's all over shinukville no roads no hotels yet you can still find them on here so it looks like the town is still there believe me its not.
We only ate in the hotel as no were else to go we booked 5 days stayed 2 moved to kampot.
Our hotel was a great complement to the staff as thay fought through dust and dirt that the bulldozers dug up every day
Constantly cleaning tables to no avail.
The Chinese have well and truly killed Shinukville 😢 Sad times

It is ok during early morning and daytime. The beach is too noisy with crazy loud music and fireworks. All hotels along the road seem to be hosting Karaoke lovers. No relaxing time for family trip.

I visited here on 24 - 25 Jan 2023, it has changed a lot since my last visit back in 2019.
There were no more kois, on the beach and it serves the public. You may enjoy family activities here (BBQ, Sunbathing, Swimming, Jogging or Relaxed).
You may bring your staff here if you preferred or you may rent from local vendors. Food is limited but there were a few options that you can order from local vendors at the beach.
There were a few landmarks created (#សិលាបដ្ដបណ្ដាសា #ដើមឈើស្នេហ៍ #សិលាចាំស្នេហ៍)។
I look forward to the next BBQ and relaxed by the beach trip soon.

I can’t comment on what Otres Beach used to be like as this was our first visit. We spent a lovely afternoon swimming in the clean beach and watching the sunset. Lots of beach food vendors wandering up and down with things like summer rolls etc. Also vendors selling bbq food, pancakes etc. There are sadly construction going on behind and lots stopped as a result of covid hitting. But the beach itself was nice and the toilet and changing facilities clean.

Hi .. I was wondering If the Tuks Tuks are available to and from Otres to serendipity beach at late hours and how safe is it ? Thanks in advance
Written 17 January 2019
I used the app called PassApp to book tuk tuks but never at night so I'm sorry, I can't help you there. I will say that as a woman traveling alone, I never felt unsafe but it would probably be safer to use an app like PassApp if you're planning to take tuk tuks at night, just so there's some type of digital trail. Good luck!

Hi, i would to know about sihanoukville. I’m sheira, 23yo. I have a plan to celebrate my birthday that will be held on 2nd march 2019 in sihanoukville. But i have no idea where’s the best spot for us to have fun there. Anyone can help me to choose?
Written 21 November 2018
Well, Otres is a fair choice if you must go to Sihanoukville! Consider that the place is not really a top destination! I found it derty, with not so much going on! I stayed there 2 days! I was heading to the near island called Koh Rong Samloem. The islands in front are maybe better: koh rong and koh rong samloem are very close and ferries get you there daily. This last is a less party place but beaches are nicer and cleaner! If I were you I would rather go to Thai (phi phi island), or Vietnam (Phu Quok)!
;)

We're a couple in our 60s looking at staying for 2/3 nights in either Sihanoukville or Kep in early November. The reviews of Otres Beach are incredibly polarised .... should we look elsewhere? We'll be thoroughly jetlagged after our flights from UK/Bangkok/Phnom Penh so only want to chill out ... eat, drink, sleep. Any advice folks ?? Happy travelling .... David

David, I live in Otres Village. Yes there are changes happening but it’s not all doom and gloom. People come to Otres for the beaches and the islands. They are still there and beautiful as ever. You can sit on the beach or laze around looking at a gorgeous ocean and forget all your troubles. I recommend Otres 2 for you as Otres 1 is party area. And remember you are visiting a developing country. If you can’t take the good with the bad, don’t visit.
Enjoy your stay you will love the sunsets..

I understand you can get a Tuk Tuk at the cruise port to Otres beach, was wondering if they will come back for you if you agreed a time or are there plenty to get back to the port ?
Written 1 October 2018
Plenty of Tuk Tuks at Otres, any hotel or bar will order one for you, there are also travel agencies there.
Don’t worry about it.
I recommend downloading PassApp.

Can someone tell me how to get to otres beach from the cruise port in port for full day and would love to vist here
Written 1 September 2018
There are plenty of motorised tuk tuks around that are very cheap and will take you to Otres. Ride is about 10 minutes.
