It is pretty awesome that the original family still owns and operates this mine as an attraction for history buffs and tourists alike. It is a unique experience that takes you into the lives of the miners in the 1890's and the processes that culminated as the gold rush. Our guide, Robert, a local who has worked there over the... Along with one other couple ( strangers) we took a very informative, guided tour of the mine but more important our guide created a complete picture of what gold mining in Julian was like. A great way to learn the history of the town and about gold mining. I highly recommend this tour.

The tour was awesome, our guide was very knowledgeable. We were able to look for our own gold ( no you cannot take home). We were inside the mine, it was an amazing experience. I highly recommend this tour.

The family and I really enjoyed the chance to explore a gold mine that was very much frozen in time. The bonus opportunity of panning for gold also helped us better understand the science behind the work. The tour guide was very entertaining and knowledgeable as well, making for an easy hour to an hour-and-a-half tour.

My wife daughter, grand daughter and I all went on the mine tour. WOW, a lot of good information and a good time. It almost felt like the 1800's and we were miners. We have gone to the mine several times and learned something new every time. we will go back and do it again. Our grand daughter is nine... More

You'd never know that the 25 sq miles around Julian are catacombed with gold mines. The Eagle and High Peak mines were two that were close to one another and linked so they could share some of the resources to extract gold from veins in the quartz. Guided tour runs regularly, cost is $10 per person, small kids discounted. Entertaining,... More

Due to the electric company doing work in the area the power was off and the mine was dark except for everyone with a flashlight. That's better than the candles the real miners used. Still got to see the whole mine with interested narrative by the guide who is a local. The property also has some old cars rusting and... More

It is an interesting tour that really allows you to understand what mining conditions were with historical show and tell. I'm claustrophobic, but the mine is cut out of solid rock and big enough that I was alright. It's not expensive, fun learning and you even get to pan for gold.

A great tour and experience. This was not a Disney type simulation ride. This was the "real deal" and looks just like it did over a century ago. Met the owner who was beaming with pride on how his grandfather started the mine. Our tour guide was good but seemed almost like he was reciting a script...
