We headed to Cuyamaca Mountains mainly for hiking and we found plenty of opportunities and great trails. Cuyamaca mountains encompass large area including some wilderness. For everage hiker recommend stopping at the Visitor center. The easiest area to hike is Cuyamaca Rancho state Park. Lots of people camping here too. After a day of hiking have some pie in Julian.

Great views of the mountains on the drive to Julian. Pull into the scenic overlook by the wooden cross for a great view.

We drove through the area looking for future horseback riding trails and a place to camp. Lots of opportunities and a beautiful area.

Just about a 45 Minute Drive out of Downtown San Diego the Cuyamaca Mountains is an easy getaway! The scenic drives and the lake Cuyamaca offers so much to see. Stop by Near by Julian and drive down to the Anza Borrego Desert too!

Quiet and beautiful Lake for fishing or a picnic. Beautiful scenery and a bike trail that circles the lake. Good hiking also. There is a restaurant (you can buy fishing permit and bail there also.)

Hiked Cuyamaca Peak yesterday. It is the second highest peak in San Diego county 6500+ ft. The area is still recovering from a devastating fire in 2003 but it is nice to see the new growth. The trailhead is located in Paso Picacho Park. You can take traditional trails much of the way, or a service road. The hike is... More

It was a wonderful drive through the mountains. Much snow still on the ground and families making snowmen.

Stopped by on my way back from the Salton Sea. Just happened to bump into this place. Very nice hiking trails, good terrain changes, lots of wildlife and birds. Very peaceful.

Within one hours relaxing drive from the city of San Diego, California, are the Cuyamaca Mountains and cradled in the mountains is the small resort town of Julian, a historic gold rush town, where gold was discovered in the late 19th century. Today the gold mines lie dormant but Julian is well worth a day visit if only to eat... More
