New community and area to explore. Stopped at the Joshua Tree Visitor Center to obtain current information about the National Park and activities in the surrounding area. This small visitor center maned by two park rangers who were extremely helpful. Received a plethora of information of hiking trails within the park and lot of helpful information about various attractions located in the confines of the city of Joshua Tree. This Visitor Center has a small walk-through exhibit that provides information about the National Park and its origins. Highly informative. A small gift shop and cafe are located on site, which will provide you with that memento of your trip to this National Park, and an opportunity to obtain a cold drink and a snack before you venture into the park. Restroom facilities are current closed down due to Covid-19 restriction. Porta potties are available. Large parking lot suited for all types of vehicles.

Every one of our national parks has a beauty of its own. Joshua tree is no different beautiful desert with loads of hiking trails for all skill levels. Most people don't want to see rain on their vacation but it poured rain when we were there. You don't often get a chance to see rain and the amount of water in the washes in the desert. It was a real treat. We toured in early March and got to see many of the flower blooms in the desert. There is a lot of info, books, internet, etc to plan a trip. If hiking take a hiking poles, they were most helpful.

A great place to start you trip to the park. The rangers inside are extremely helpful in providing information and tips about where to go, how to get there and good places based on what you want to see and do. They provide free maps of the park and have restrooms available inside as well as information about the area and its history.

We were on vacation in Palm Desert recently and decided to take a trip to Joshua Tree Visitors Centre and enquire what would be the best trip to do in our car in just half a day .
The staff member at the visitors centre was so informative and gave us a map and pointed out some good places to stop and look at on our road trip which lasted approximately 3 hours.
We purchased the car passes there and off we went. We had an amazing sunny day in January and not too hot and we had the most perfect trip. Would definitely recommend a visit . We were blown away by some of the views .

Bring your masks folks!
My family and I are triple vaccinated. I am not against safety measures, but come-on...masking....in December 2022?! I haven't worn a mask in well over a year. No, I'm not anti-masks, or against science. We all get our immunizations, wear our seat belts, use sunscreen. Heck, I even have my 9 year old in a booster seat! But enough is a enough.
Thank you to the nice family who provided us with spare masks so we could get the Junior Ranger booklet. We are grateful!

We got a map here before visiting Joshua tree around noon. There was barely any room to even walk in the center, so we took the map and left. Later on around dinner time we stopped back in. It was a lot quieter. They have books, clothing, Xmas ornaments etc.. Helpful staff. When we were leaving two roadrunners were in the parking lot looking around.

It was a nice place to stop and "empty the tanks" before we drove through the park. We did ask the rangers about hikes for those with mobility issues (my folks are 70+.) She gave us some good suggestions and highlighted them on a map.
With that said, she did try to scare my parents about how much gas it would take to see the whole park. It only took us 1/4 of a tank. Strange.

Pretty typical national park visitor center with a couple ranger desks, informative displays, a small gift shop, and restrooms. The ranger I spoke with wasn’t especially friendly, but managed to give me solid info about the day’s crowd size.
This center at the west entrance is older than the one in Twentynine Palms (north entrance), and seemed more about info than gift shop. It was also more crowded; the parking lot filled quickly!

Came to this Visitor's Center to get a Senior Lifetime Pass and to see the visitors center. They have a one-way in and out to protect all. Staff is masked as are visitors. Actual entrance to park is several miles away. Were informed that pass we wanted was only available at the Actual entrance.
Facility is nice with explanation of the park with maps and good information.

Hello!
I'm looking to head to JT in June from Phoenix. I'm not familiar with the layout of the park.
Looking to stay in an Airbnb in area that is a short drive to area with restaurants. Not sure where to start my research
Would I look around Pioneertown? or Twentynine Palms?
Thank you.

if you habe additional questions about Joshua tree just write my name at gmail... remember, Joshua Tree is NOT in the same category as grand Canyon, Yosemite, or Yellowstone... interesting and bleakly beautiful, odd even, but without the grandeur and beauty found at many other national parks.

Joshua trees get boring fast in 10 seconds - suggest just see from the freeway.
Also, the Mohave/Barstow county police are speed-trap hungry to give you a ticket. Cops are really scary in the desert of south eastern California as used to dealing with crappy locals while ticketing the city slickers (like us). While from freeway to trailhead we saw NOT A SINGLE SPEED SIGN, got ticketed for ~60mph! Spoilt the day - never going back here for a super lame trail anyway.
