We had larger expectations for this Orange County museum. When we attended in September, the show was mildly interesting but the thing that surprised us was how small this museum is. We visited on a free day and we recommend that, as the small size does not justify paying admission in our opinion.

We forgot that we had gone to this very small museum some years ago. An "exhibition" (in a few large rooms) would be a more accurate description of this venue than "museum." The California paintings are mediocre. The overall experience was a bit depressing.

I live in Irvine and after traveling and doing a lot of fun things, came home, and was extremely bored so I looked up Things to Do on Trip Advisor. I found this museum which is a total 10. Small and intimate, the work focuses on California artists from the late 1800's to around 1950, as well as some contemporary... More

We spent a lovely afternoon hour at the Irvine Museum. It's a smaller gallery with (mostly) American Impressionist Western Landscape Art. Displays change at least quarterly. At least half of the featured artists are contemporary (alive). Paintings are well-spaced and presented. Room is very attractive. We will return.

This gem of a museum is an Orange county treasure. If you enjoy plein air art from the real masters, go often, as the viewings change several times a year. Ity is a fabulous private collection that is open to the public.

Somewhat hard to find, but worth the effort and time. Unlike large museums, this place will not overwhelm the visitor. It offers small, well-curated exhibitions that favor impressionism. Call it the "tapas bar" of California Impressionism.

I made a quick trip to this free museum and was pleased with the very small collection of California impressionist paintings. The space is well lighted and lovely. Parking is free with validation inside the museum. The hours are limited, so check the website before you visit. We went on a Saturday and I expect it is much easier to... More
