Worth the walk if you want to see it up close.

Park next to the American River water Education Center. Then walk across the bridge call Folsom Dam Crossing. It's a far more interesting seeing if the dam is spilling water. But to be clear , it is impossible to visit this damn close up. This...More

Of course, up close is relative. It's still a bit of a distance from the bike trail, but at least you can take your time having a look. From the road, you can't stop, so it's just a drive by. If you like looking at...More

Nice site. More impressive around rainy season (when there is rain from October to March) as they let water out into the American River. No real way to stop on the road nearby as it is a 55 mph road with no shoulder. You can...More

It's the Wandering Yank here. I've seen Folsom Dam many, many times, having lived nearby. It never fails to impress me, with the 8 spillways leading into the rocky gorge below Folsom Prison. The best place to see it is from the Dam Road crossing...More

The water level in the lake was quite low, but the dam itself has a nice view. You can stroll around the dam and enjoy the ambience.

This item should be separated as two attraction - Folsom Powerhouse and Folsom Dam. Now the review of Powerhouse is better represented by https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g32389-d7029293-Reviews-Folsom_Powerhouse-Folsom_California.html Regarding to the dam, I talked to the park ranger in Folsom Powerhouse and confirm that the dam is no more...More

This is opposite the Prison and is a refreshing ride to the Folsom dam. You can just test drive your new car. You can go in the early mornings.

I happened to stumble upon Folsom Dam while driving around town. You can see how low the water levels are at Folsom Lake due to the drought. Still an interesting structure to see so close to the road.

As it has been so long without rain in Folsom, the water was really down in the lake. We drove across the dam and did not see very much.

Interesting to see the history of the powerhouse and the old electrical system that was in place and all that it did. It's amazing. If you have time, take in the Folsom History Museum too.
