On our way to Yosemite we kept seeing signs about the railroad. This was not our plan to stop, but we pulled of just to check it out. We were met by a nice older gentleman who looked like a conductor and he told us that the train just left. He said we had the option of riding on a... More

Take the short ride if you insist on going. Save the 5 dollars. I think the only addition is you get to get out and use the woodsy toilet in the ground. Pretty much a waste of time for my group . Railroad afficianados might enjoy the whole steam powered locomotive thing. The train goes on a pretty small route.... More

This was a good diversion on a cold, rainy day visiting Yosemite. The train ride is one hour with a cute narration. There is a stop for 15 minutes where all the kids could run around, climb on fallen timber, and jump over the stream, and traverse fallen branches and rocks. There are no vistas but it feels like you... More

On your way to Yosemite you have to stop at sugar pine railroad. This is a must see. The have an old train on site that you can ride back into the forest and the conductors give you a narrated ride back to the past. There are several gift shops there a bookstore and a gold panning station for the... More

Do this! Lovely people. You come close to the history. We loved the tour, surrondings and being in historic scenery. Sun, threes, noise from the steamtrain, smell,

Beautiful scenery & narration of steam train. Only complaint was it's only a 4mi trip in open cars which was nice but a little pricey for small excursion of woods,

Not a whole lot of touristy things you can do in the winter/spring with young kids, other than visiting the valley. Sugar Pine Railroad was the break my kids needed from Yosemite. It was a nice nature tour, but of course my 4 year old son really only cared about the train! Staff is great, family owned!

We went for the moonlight ride & had the barbecue dinner before the train left. My parents loved it & our children loved it! The train makes one stop at a place with a campfire & the staff sings to you around the campfire. Great for spending quality family time together without all the phones/gadgets out to distract the kids.

We were lucky to find out that they were still running the train over Thanksgiving weekend - even though it was SNOWING! The snow made the train ride more magical than we could have ever hoped for. The staff is very knowledge, and even let the kids up into the engine car when taking a break during the 1/2 way... More

We have done lots of train tours and rides before...across the country. It happened to be snowing on our trip here and the ride through the forest was magical. The engineers and conductor were SUPER friendly and even invited kids up to the engine room. It's cold in the winter so bring your winter gear, and in the summer it... More
