About
This medieval Tuscan castle and winery stands out in Napa Valley as one of its most unusual buildings. At this gorgeous location on the hillside above Calistoga, you can explore the castle's Grand Barrel Room, chapel, and Great Hall, and more curious rooms like the Torture Chamber and dungeon. Pick from a variety of tasting tours to sample some of their award-winning wines, paired with charcuterie, cheeses, and chocolate. The best time to visit is from August through October to catch Napa’s harvest season—it gets busy so make your reservations early to secure your slot. – Tripadvisor

- jayne6 contributionsBeautiful placeThis is a must-see if this is your first time visiting. We did the seated tasting with the chocolate and charcuterie! I highly recommend this to enhance your experience. We each received generous pours of our 5 tastings, and there are so many options to choose from! After our tasting we were free to wander around the castle. On our way out don't forget to visit the animals including the famous Giacomo!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 March 2023
- Diane PStratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom41 contributionsDeborah was greatThe castle was ok it was a real tourist attraction, not for me a typical wine tasting experience, I am used to. However Deborah made it fun and a really lovely experience. I have to say all the wines we tasted were delightful and I would highly recommend the wines they produce.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 April 2023
- Final_knightMiami, Florida219 contributionsBeautiful castleThis was the first winery we visited and it is beautiful. I love castles and medieval stuff so I am really glad we went. We did the diamond estate guided tour by Natalia, which was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The only thing I didn’t care much for were the actual wines… none could hold a candle to the Jarvis ones we tasted.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 April 2023
- offthemainroadtravels212 contributionsGreat winery in the heart of NapaThe architectural brilliance of mid-evil Europe along with the history is a fascinating time period that holds great interest to me. When there is a winery with a castle that represents the time period I am immediately drawn to it for the look on the outside and inside with the feel for it on the inside. At Castello di Amorosa venturing into the tasting room I feel like this is how it was back in those times. A dark, dimly lit, with a dank like quality just feels special to me. Their wines match the quality and effort put into the castle with quality and care you would expect upon seeing the winery at the bottom of the hill. Their rosé had this light pomegranate raspberry flavor while the zinfandel had complex notes of black current fruit. Their Merlot was an amazing flavor with its notes of cherry, chocolate, and wood from the barrels. Finally the Riesling had excellent notes of peach and apricot flavors finishing nicely with a sweet mixture of both. Parts of Castello di Amorosa were destroyed in the California wild fires of 2020 but the castle remains in tact. As of this writing they are determined to forge ahead and rebuild was lost. If you are in the area you should give them a try as the great wine combined with the castle structure offers a one of a kind wine tasting experience. Kids are welcomed if accompanied by some 21 or over. $$-$$$Visited June 2022Written 20 May 2023

Some calling it 'A Disneyland Atmoshere' But the wines we were served for the basic Seated Tasting were all very good to Great!! We visited several other traditional wineries that served lesser quality wines for their basic tastings! We did not feel rushed either (We were there on a Friday)Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 May 2023
- TravelJohn092Phoenix, Arizona327 contributionsCastello di Amorosa, what an Experience this was, Amazing!!While visiting Napa Valley, we made a reservation for this Castle and it was Amazing. Once the tour guide (Christopher) took us all over the Castle, he took us to the Gift shop and for our scheduled tastings of their wines, WOW!! The tasting in the gift shop is the end of the tour but shop all you want, we had several bottles mailed to our home. You can't go wrong getting this tour, seeing the towers, catapalt, barrels galore, dungeon, more barrels, bottles and more barrels.....I spent time in Sicily and this reminded me of their castles. The Views of the surrounding valley is Amazing....Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 July 2023

The castle was terrific, and being able to walk around was great. Their wine is very good as well. Was our first winery in Napa and did not disappoint and set the bar high!Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 July 2023
- Melissa LCranston, Rhode Island3 contributionsA castle in Cali?!?This was the first vineyard we visited on our recent trip to Napa and it did NOT disappoint. We did the self guided tour and tasting since we had a car service and were tight on time. The wines were amazing, we got to pick which we each wanted to try and the grounds and castle were really something special. If you don’t do a guided tour, still go and check out the view from the towers, amazing! Enrico was our host and he was wonderful! Would definitely visit again!Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 July 2023

Had a great tour and tasting of the vineyard. My favorite part was the cellars and all the rooms that store wine. It’s huge down there. It does get crowded but it was nice for both the view and the wine tasting. Knowing that you’re not going to an intimate tasting allowed me to enjoy the tour for what it was. Didn’t love the wines but that was a personal thing. Overall a fun experience.

Super busy place, so crowded! Fun place to visit, interesting rooms in the maze of the basement with armor, torture chairs and devices, etc. Guide was great, knowledgeable and very sweet. Wines were okay, but again, very nice ambience in the tasting room (some ants, though). Nice place to visit if you're not an oenophile. My favorite part was...all the cute animals on the grounds! Hens, roosters, sheep, ostriches, oh my!

My mom and I stopped here. Cool grounds great view of the area. Castle is neat. There were chickens around the property.we were a little early for our reservation, but that was not a problem. Like all of the area, it's expensive side for tasting. The ambiance is nice in the tasting room at one of the lower levels. There is no cell service for us there. Staff was friendly and helpful. For some reason, my mom always got larger pours than me. We bought a few bottles including one of the discount wines in the gift shop.

Extremely unhappy with the customer service. Website showed they close at 6pm. Their online booking system clearly had a problem in booking wine tours, gave an error for any day or time we book. I tried calling their customer service who did not answer any calls when they were clearly open. After driving 2 hours with little kids and senior family members, all the way to Napa just to visit this winery, we reached at 5:05pm. Their website still showed tour at 5:16pm.
Explained to the staff on their website issue, even showed them the website bug which took us 20 mins to explain. Requested for permission to do just wine tasting and taking pictures around the castle. They refused to let us in stating they were closed for wine tasting, when the website clearly showed open until 6pm. We were finally willing to choose option of buying a wine bottle just to be able to visit the wine pickup area close to the castle. I only wanted our family visiting from Florida for weekend to see the beautiful castle and taste wine which was optional. After a while of discussions, they say their store closed at 5:30pm while we were still inside their gate reception and in mid of this discussion for last 20 mins. They finally break this news that even going around the castle to take pictures is not possible now allthough their website showed close time as 6pm. We lost time standing their from 5:05 to 5:30pm explaining the problem with their website. now they were not allowing us to buy the wine as well. After all the effort, all they offered was an apology which was clearly frustrating when what we loose is time, energy and money driving all the way here with emotional frustration and disappoinement. Later we saw a board that stated they were closed for private event. Which is why I believe they were making an excuse not allowing people inside even though their website was not aware of this. They clearly did not feel responsibile to their system issues. Its frustrating specially this has been a place I have been many times, always took guests visiting california to see this castle. Never expected this poor customer service.

I joined my husband on a work conference and this was the excursion the conference group too us on. Hands down an amazing experience. Upon arrival we were handed a glass of bubbly, and then a tasting for our tour of the castle. It’s amazing to think this castle was made in the 2000’. You feel as if you have been transported back in time to Europe. We were then treated to a fabulous tasting lunch experience in the Great Hall prepared by Tre Posti Catering. We then visited the great gift shop to bring souvenirs home from our memorable outing. If in the area again we will definitely be returning. Oh, and the wine is good too! Try their specialty sweet wine La Fantasia.

The customer service was very disappointing. I’ve been a member and have spent over $3,000 in my short time at castello. I would expect to have decent customer support but unfortunately I was not treated very well by their phone support team.
During our tasting as well, the woman who was serving us gave an uncomfortable amount of attention to my husband (who mentioned feeling uncomfortable) while practically ignoring the rest of our group.
Please train your staff better. I don’t see myself or my family returning.

Amazing wine and the castle is breath taking! Family friendly which is rare in Napa. Kids had chocolate and enjoyed the mini farm and the castle. The Reds were all delicious, my fav was the IL Barone. Bought some to bring home and my friends also loved it.

It was so bad I had forgotten about the Castle until I just saw an episode of Man Fire Food about it. Our daughter bought my husband and I a special gift of wine tasting and food. There were 6 of us including 2 children. Basically our server did not know what my daughter had paid for and did not bring the food until we questioned it. He was obviously rushing us through. Before we could finish anything he was hovering. The guests next to us must have had the upgraded package as they had servers all over them. Seriously would not go back in peak season. It is a beautiful place and is possibly fabulous when it is not peak season. Our service was atrocious and could not recommend and will never go back.

Not worth it ! Subpar wine. Mediocre at best. Don't waste your time here. We visited during our wine Napa trip. Initially went to a few beautiful wineries with superb experiences. We booked and prepaid our reservation for four of us, as required, due to illness only 3 of us were able to go. I found out this is non refundable per person. Thinking since we still filled the table they would work something out. So they wanted $65 for that. I asked their employees to shift the money over to a bottle of wine since our friend couldn't make it we would bring it over to his hotel room. They said no way. I was able to break through to a senior manager who understood and gave us a bottle but only after dealing with a cocky manager-boy who had a broken record response that unfortunately it's not possible...

Horrible… pathetic… should not waste your money.. the wine tasting is a joke… the Castle is good thought to visit. But you will not like to pay $60 for just visiting a Castle…I am going to ask for refund for the money spent… thieves they are!!!

California Experts,
I have booked a tour @ 9.30 AM, what time should i leave specifically considering traffiic from SFO Downtown, Planning. on Nov 20th Saturday
markabaddon
Apple Valley, MN201 contributions
I would expect a minimum of a 2 hour drive from SFO downtown to the Castle. Probably best to expect 2.5 hours. The Castle does ask for you to arrive 15 minutes in advance of your tour, but from what I have seen that is not really necessary.. If you have a 9:30 AM tour, you are probably going to want to leave downtown SF at 7 at the latest

Hi! From the city, it will probably take at least 2 hours to drive up there, I'd give it 2.5 hours just to safe :)

Yes. I don’t drink but the others with us do. The price was worth the tour. It’s an interesting building. Their wines are also excellent and cannot be purchased at stores off the property.

Can you just go to Castello's store if you don't want to do any tasting or tour?

I think you can. However, if you do the tour and buy a set of bottles, it would make you eligible for a discount. I'm not exactly sure of the number that you have to buy to be eligible. I bought one Merlot and did not receive a discount.
