About
Family-owned and managed boutique winery, Mitre’s Edge, is nestled at the foothills of the Simonsberg Mountain, between Paarl and Stellenbosch. It is in this beautiful setting that winemaker Lola Nicholls, assisted by husband Bernard, focuses on producing relatively smaller quantities of high-quality, award-winning wines. Wine tastings are offered by appointment.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visited here as part of a wine flies tour. This was a smaller vineyard making higher quality Bordeaux style wines. I enjoyed the tasting in the cellar of the owners home. A cheese plate accompanied our tasting.

Not well sign posted and the road id dodgy, but the wine and cheese pairing is one of the best. To make it better still, the pairing is delivered by the wine maker herself. Find this gem!

I bought a voucher on 27 September 2017, after due consideration of the expiry date which was on only 30 November 2017. When I got the voucher it stated that it must be used by 30 September 2017. Mitre's edge Vineyards then refused to honour the voucher and simply stated that their promotion expires 30 September 2017. The also stated that Hyperli requested them to extend their promotion, but that the current promotion expires 30 September 2017. On 30 September 2017 the voucher expired. There is miscommunication between Mite's Edge Vineyards and Hyperli and the consumer is the one to pay the price. So my advice do not do business with Mitre's Edge Vineyards or with Hyperli - you will only lose your money and end up spending way more time on these crooked people than they are worth.

Thank you for your comments, but would like to state that if you look at our Facebook page, you are the first person to give us a negative review on social media. Prior to your review, we were contacted by hyperli regarding this matter and we suggested that they offer you a private tasting with my wife, the winemaker. We also said that as a result of the confusion, we would open some of our exclusive wines for you. This offer still stands. I take strong exception to you calling us crooked, as we have not tried to do anything unlawful and as it is, we have absolutely no financial gain, from your voucher, as your contract is with hyperli. We hope that we can still welcome you sometime.

We really enjoyed our visit to this boutique wine estate. The owners are very friendly and so are their dogs. Enjoyed a cheese pairing, and it was great. We also bought some cabernet franc.

We visited Mitre's Edge and were welcomed most warmly into the beautiful family home of Lola and Bernard. We experienced a wine tasting with Lola, the wines were beautiful and perfectly paired with the cheeses. We learnt so much about the estate and the wines they produce. After the tasting, we got to blend our own wine, such a unique and personal experience. As complete novices under the watchful eye of a master winemaker, we created a blend and it was especially exciting to cork, foil and name our bottle which we could take home. We highly recommend this experience, it was very special, we hope to return. Thank you, Lola!

I recently had a chance to visit Mitre’s Edge again and was treated by the same warm and generous hospitality. The wines are excellent and the cheese pairings well-thought out and delicious! I definitely recommend wine lovers to stop here for a lovely experience of excellent wine and fantastic service - enhanced with some wonderful wine stories.

Had a great wine tasting with good wines and local cheeses. The kids got orange juice. Unfortunately Lola was not there but got enthousiastically helped by the crew.

Very unique experience of having our wine tasting with cheese pairing in Lola's personal wine cellar. Lola was friendly, welcoming and very knowledgeable about the wine and cheese pairing. Above all else it was excellent wine!
Highly recommend this place for a personal and unique wine tasting experience!

I recently had the privilege of attending a tasting at Mitre's Edge Vineyards - a family owned and run wine farm, at the start of the Stellenbosch Route.

We were treated to an excellently matched wine and cheese tasting, which I definitely recommend, the cheese are locally sourced and specifically selected to compliment each of the wines in their range, portions are generous and the pace of the tasting was just right - enhanced by stories of the farm and the wines from the winemaker herself - and it all is presented in the winemaker's family home!

The wines themselves are why I plan to go back - specialising in Bordeaux reds, what Stellenbosch is famous for, the Mitre's Edge wines are beautifully made, true to terrior and just delicious. My favourite is The Mitre!

My Wife and I had visited the wine lands of the Western Cape back in 2016 where we had stayed in a little B&B in Franschhoek. This time we decided to stay on a Wine Estate in Stellenbosch with our 16month old Daughter. Mitre's Edge Wine Estate from the outset was the best choice for us.

From the moment we arrived; we were made to feel at home and as such we were comfortable and relaxed in the next chapter of our family holiday. The Pool House offered a great area for us as a family to have our own space and to play board games, watch TV and to use it as a base to which we were able to explore the wine farm and surrounding area. During our stay we also had the opportunity to have a private Wine and Cheese Pairing session, which we absolutely loved and subsequently bought two bottles of wine and the associated cheeses. A must if you have the opportunity to visit.

If you're looking for family friendly, children friendly, good wine and great hospitality - then Mitre's Edge Wine Estate is top of that list. My family will most definitely be staying at Mitre's Edge Wine Estate again in the future and we have already recommended it to a number of friends who are considering Stellenbosch for their South Africa trips in the future. I just hope this review makes you want to choose it too.
