If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind hike that is fairly local in the Bay area, then I definitely suggest going to Big Basin Redwood State Park. There are so many amazing sites to this incredible place that you will definitely leave in awe. There are several hiking trails you can take, my girlfriend and I ended up hiking the Berry... More

Our schedule was tight so we had just an hour to enjoy the redwoods and visitor center. That was just enough time to stroll the half mile loop, speak to the rangers, read a bit of history, and to use the restrooms. We drove in from the west through Boulder Creek and had a signal the entire way for the... More

We stayed in a cabin with no other cabins behind us, it was perfect. There is plenty of space between you and the other cabins. I would recommend to bring a lot of firewood- sold at the markets right before heading up. Please do this and pack well as it's a ten mile drive back down to the stores. Restroom... More

It was a cold day when we went there in dec 16 but we still had a good time. WE did two trails, one to the falls and the other short one around the redwoods trail and both were good. Would love to come back to do the bech trail.

A local jewel. Not to be missed if you are from out of town. Can get a little crowded with visitors on weekends. If so, go to Henry Cowell Instead, another Incredible local state park. I Love them both.

Anytime you need your payment cleared or just don't have anybody to hang out with that day this is a good place to take a walk. Go at your own pace. No hurries no worries

Not only the park is great but also the drive leading up to it. Be prepared to be amazed by trees that at some thousand years of age, are older than the entire continent. Not to mention that it is the oldest state park in California. If you're a photographer, or an ornithologist, do not forget to take your equipment... More

The redwood trees here are huge! Even a very short accessible trail (we did it with a wheel chair) takes you to very large redwood trees. Driving to the park in the Santa Cruz mountains takes a while due to the very windy road through the mountainous landscape. It is beautiful and remote, but the parking lot was pretty full.

Hike the Redwood Loop Trail to see numerous mature (250 ft. +) Coast Redwoods. Unlike some other parks with redwoods, Big Basin Redwoods State Park has mature redwood trees, that is, full-grown ones. I hiked over 5 miles from the Visitor Center area to the ridgetop (Middle Ridge Trail) and back and it was great. Arrive early to get a... More
