Nice Hike

Great place for a short hike and to grab some great pictures of the coastline. It is far enough north that tourist traffic is usually light.

Off Hwy 1, turn into the Shell Beach State Park. From there, you'll walk just more than a mile to 2 large rock formations. The first is closed, but you can walk up to and around the second one. Feel the smooth surface of the rocks in some areas; mammoth used these thousands of years ago. The trail is flat,... More

This is a review for the Mammoth Rocks site. You should Google Sonoma Mammoth Rocks before you go. There is great info. about this areas history. Park at the Shell Beach parking lot south of Goat Rock. There are restrooms here but no water. Walk the trail north (about 2 miles) and this will take you to Mammoth Rocks. The trail... More

I was awestruck by the beauty of the coastline of Bodega Bay. With rock formations jutting out of the ocean along the coast. The rugged cliffs and windswept terrain will be a memory I will long have. Had lunch in a fishing harbor/cove nearby. The oyster poor-boy was as fresh as it could get, also a delicious memory. I would... More

This was a random stop off for us, as we had no place to be this day driving up the 1. So glad we did! We drove up a mountain road through the clouds rising over the ocean. The winery is gorgeous, clean, and welcoming. We appreciated the wine tasting and the time our wine expert gave us. We were... More

Asked a ranger where the rocks were or else we wouldn't have known how to get there. Wonderful walking area along the ocean with scattered "haystacks", lots of cormorants on the rocks. Large open fields dotted with little wildflowers. Saw a wild turkey in the brush. Saw grazing deer. Fresh, fresh air, so nice.

Made it a point to visit the Visitors Bureau to know where to go. OK this is a fairly new rock found in 2001 and it just seems that this would be the first thing that they would tell someone visiting the area about. We found it on Trip Advisor only after leaving the VB for info. It was not... More

Went on a pretty windy day, missed out on the geologic stuff ( wish I would've read the reviews first), but still a great afternoon drive carving all the views of the majestic pacific. Amazing the power water has, given enough time. Hike all the way out on the beach to check out the Harbor Seal Nesting Area, but bring... More
