Almost as if we haven't lost a moment of time... Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley is still so reminiscent of the 60's that you will feel as if you have traveled back in time when you visit Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. The shops and eateries are a mix of quintessential hippie-dom mixed with the current U.C. Berkeley modern day student. Both seem to blend together in a medley that makes shopping and eating here almost a cultural or historical trek as well as a great shopping one.

Lots of interesting shops and inviting restaurants. Lots of Locals there. As we got close to campus there were mor homeless but they did not bother us. (No panhandling or hassles.) Felt sad seeing them tucked into the "safe" doorways for the night but they...More

The street scene here goes back over 50 years, the vibe is about the same counter culture thing that it has always been, just the charactors change as well as the shops ... This is another part of Berkeley ... .. .

Great People Watching and unique shopping with a nod to the ^0's and the Summer of Love. The home of the Free Speech Movement and amazing new restaurants.

Telegraph avenue illustrates what to avoid in Berkeley, dirty street, homeless people begging. Or maybe we shouldn't avoid it. It is our unpleasant reality.

While there are some places closed down there is a vibrancy about Telegraph Avenue. Plenty to see and do. Street markets from the trendy jewelry, original paintings and other 'stuff'. There are homeless people about but generally they don not bother others. If you are...More

9 years ago during our first visit to Berkeley (we visit family there on an yearly basis) Telegraph Avenue was hustling and bustling with every sight, sound and taste imaginable - giving one the sense of Berkeley's original "hippie-town" flavour. However, this seems to be...More

There's good and bad here - lots of history, some nice new shops and restaurants (Mezzo, Sinaloa) but still very dirty, but I guess that's part of the scene.

Every hippie cliche imaginable. There are still local businesses but it is starting to be overrun with chains.

Lots to do, see, and eat! Great to walk down and walk into the shops like the Chinese bakery on the corner, T-Shirt Orgy, Rasputin Music, and Cream.

It probably depends on the vendor. There's an excellent Chinese bakery across from campus that I visited about 9 am. I didn't see street vendors then. They were there in the afternoon. It probably depends on the day of the... More
