Almost as if we haven't lost a moment of time... Telegraph Avenue in...

Almost as if we haven't lost a moment of time... Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley is still so reminiscent of the 60's that you will feel as if you have traveled back in time when you visit Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley.

The shops and eateries are a mix of quintessential hippie-dom mixed with the current U.C. Berkeley modern day student. Both seem to blend together in a medley that makes shopping and eating here almost a cultural or historical trek as well as a great shopping one.

Think The Haight - almost as seedy - in places

The many faces of Telegraph - some great little stores - and a passel of people who wish it was the 60's -look and act like it. Drive down the street - see if you want to stay...

Walking Telegraph Avenue is always lively and entertaining. Lots of coffee shops and tasty restaurants to enjoy, before after walking around the UC Campus.

Pizza, Chinese, Vegan, Vegetarian, books and dogs. Freaks and geeks. Hippies and students, High school kids and parents wheeling strollers. Don't forget the side streets off of Telegraph - People's Park, used records, Gumby, Poky, kites, things to read, buttons and bumper stickers, bicycles, bagels, balloons and flowers, tie-died shirts, second hand clothing and everything blue and gold.

Cafes, restaurants, bookstores, Tibetan shops, stores, punks, hippies, students, visitors, artists, street vendors, homeless, and more all mix on historic Telegraph Avenue that runs from Oakland right into the UC Berkeley campus.

Runners, bikers, joggers, walkers dog-walkers Busy Thanksgiving week in the stores-restaurants over flowing. Safeway grocery in the area super busy-but fun!

Everything wonderful about Berkeley can be found on Telegraph Ave. Firstly there is People's Park, and all the shops between the end of Telegraph at the UC campus and Stuart. Everyone is wonderful - be prepared to bring plenty of cash to dispense to the homeless panhandling, but also to be rewarded for it with genuine appreciation and friendship.

If you're in Berkeley you absolutely must spend some time on the famous Telegraph Avenue. There are a lot of interesting people around and cool places to pop in to. Definitely worth a look.

I used to love to shop Telegraph, especially the bookstores and record stores, and stop for something light to eat. Now I avoid it because almost all the good stores are gone and the street is swarming with aimless young people begging and harassing the rest of us. Too bad.

Would not stay in Berkley again. Was dirty and dingy and everything was overpriced. Enjoyed the Greek though.

Vacant lots and burned out storefronts, panhandlers roaming the avenue, homeless people sleeping in doorways - Telegraph Avenue long ago lost its bohemian allure and has simply become a slummy gateway to the UC campus. I avoid it as much as I can.
