Lake Alpine is a small lake tucked into the granite shore. There are picnic areas and beaches to hang out at with the family. We did not have a lot of time, so just walked on the granite rocks for a while and took in the beauty. I would have like to been able to hike around the lake. Many... More

Located on Highway 4, a short distance west of Bear Valley, Lake Alpine is a wonderful summer family destination. A good size lake / reservoir located right along Highway 4 is perfect for swimming, kayaking, fishing, and just relaxing enjoyment. The area gets pretty crowed in the summer so it's best to visit on the weekdays. Two campgrounds are on... More

This was a very cute little lake that we came upon, and quite glad we did. We were riding motorcycles and didn't pack our swimsuits but wish we had. Just a few families around splashing and lounging on the sandy beaches and granite boulders.

Up in the mountains, pristine lake with a beach and boats, great lunch, and a great day in the woods. Rode the motorcycle from NV, over Ebbetts Pass, spectacular narrow road with lots of camping places in CA, hiking trails, and much easier for folks from CA to get here.

We drove up from Arnold on a really hot day and were pleased to discover that, at this elevation (~7500 ft), it's at least 15 degrees cooler than it was down the mountain. The drive is pleasant, and the beautiful pristine mountain lake makes it well worth the trip. It was quite crowded when we were there, but we did... More

I love this place. Gorgeous natural beauty!, crystal clear water!, nice people. Many nice day use areas for hanging out, having a picnic, taking a nap. There is a nice trail all along the lake (actually it goes all the way down the Bear Valley) which, we used to ride our bikes. There is a nice (but pricey) restaurant where... More

Runs for all ages and levels of ability and not the Tahoe traffic jams. 40 minutes max from Arnold so you ski, not sit in traffic.

Swam and canoed here and loved it. Hotel was great and would love to come back in the winter to snowboard and maybe skate on the frozen lake.

We drove from Sacramento area to Bear Valley, 132 miles, five hours with breaks. We went the slow way on old Highway 49, the Gold Country road. The GPS directed us off the road some 18 miles before Bear Valley. It seems we had the destination address listed as Creekside in Arnold. The GPS found a second Creekside in what... More

Bring your canoe and kayaks and paddle around this gorgeous lake. Have a bite to eat and drink delicious bloody Mary's at the Alpine lodge bar and restaurant. You can only drive to the lake from May to September. The main road is closed during the winter. You can snowshoe in during the winter months to see lake but lodge... More
