Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Yes, it is located at a peculiar location high on top of a volcanic mountain. But you can only visit the ruins of the two towers.

When we visited there were no animals like shown in some of the pictures. In the courtyard there was a podium where I guess you could sometimes see a show or spectacle, but with no time table or info it's hard to tell.

The bistro near the castle entrance was nice and with good food.

We enjoyed the Prachov rocks not too far away much more. From there you could also see Trosky castle as a distinct landmark.

Absolute rubbish.
A pile of rocks that they charge you to look at.
Nothing interesting at all.
Enjoy the the View from the outside and save your money.
They even charge you for parking your car…
Big disapointment!!

This is a very beautiful castle in a very nice environment. We really liked it. But unfortunately we were given back a false 100 Kc bill at the parking lot. When discovered at the upper entrance the parking guard already had left the parking lot, way to early in the afternoon. Be careful when paying to the guard. It's very diffcult to discover false bills.

The Czech Republic has the most castles in Central Europe. I enjoy touring them. We were staying in Sobotka Czech Republic and decided to visit this castle ruins. Parking was free. Had to walk up a steep hill about a quarter mile. Restaurants and shops along the way. Cost 160 Krons to get into the castle. Not a lot left to the castle but steep stairs take you up for terrific views on both sides of what is left of the castle. Two historic battles occurred here. I think it is worth a visit if you are in the area. Must be in good shape to visit this castle. No dogs allowed.

Kids enjoyed it due to great views and could hold interesting birds like owls and Falcons. Many stairs to see view.
Also the Baba tower was completely infested with insects so we have to go down immediately without seeing view

From afar this might is great. Really dominating feature.
You will be charged for parking and for entrance fees.
No dogs allowed, not even in backpack. We did however manage to get our chihuahua through, because our backpack had hard cover and therefor no way for a dog to bark on people, bite someone, no way out for him and no way in.
There is a dog corner before entrance, but dogs are put to close together for me to be comfortable with that.
Views from above are really good, but if you have seen one castle ruin to many in your life, you can skip it too.

Small mediaveal castle in the middle of the peaceful country side. There is not too much to explore in the castle but the views are super great. The towers are built on the top of the huge vulcanic cliff. There is a good restaurant near the parking places and a bistro for snacks on the upper level.

If you go off the main road leading from Turnov to Jicin and cover some 6-7 km up the hill, you will meet some vivid traces of old medieval times - the ruins of Trosky. The two towers raging up to some remarkable height can be partially climbed up to. This requires some persistance and fitness, however, doable by "normal people", not sportsmen, only. Mind, the entrance fee (80 CZK) only slightly exceeds the enormous fee for a car park slot (60 CZK for a personal car) from where you need to climb up for some 10 minutes to reach the castle entrance.

We walked from Sobotka to Hruba Skala as part of a World Walks self guided tour (some 26 km).

Part of the walk was to the Trosky castle which can be viewed from a distance and is particularly interesting and impressive.

We walked up the road to the castle and at the car park it stated that the opening hours were 9 AM to 5:30 PM from May to August. Unfortunately our visit was on 2 September at which time it closes at 4 PM so we missed entry by approximately 10 minutes.

Certainly from the outside of the castle and walking around it a bit it is very impressive.

My advice would be if you are wanting to visit the castle and go inside, to check the opening hours prior to going. The cost would have been 80 koruna per person.
